The Role of Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation in Ataxia‐Telangiectasia

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Ataxia‐telangiectasia (A‐T) is a DNA repair disorder characterized by neurodegeneration, immunodeficiency, and cancer predisposition. Hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) is an established therapy in related disorders such as Fanconi anemia (FA) and Nijmegen breakage syndrome (NBS), but its role in A‐T is unclear.

Fonte Novello old-growth forest

open access: yesL'Italia Forestale e Montana, 2010
The study has been carried-out to compare the genetic diversity between old growth beech forest and post-harvested naturally regenerated stands. The purpose was also the evaluation of the possible genetic impact of harvesting systems; these information are needed for the development sustainable silvicultural methods.

Old-growth forest carbon sinks overestimated

open access: yesNature, 2021
Luyssaert et al.1 reported that unmanaged, old-growth forests continue to sequester atmospheric carbon (C) at a rate of 2.4 ± 0.8 Mg C ha–1 yr–1 for stand ages exceeding 200 years. This claim was based on an analysis of net ecosystem productivity (NEP) and other C flux data from temperate or boreal forest plots compiled from published studies and ...

Effectiveness of a Novel Low‐Density Lipoprotein Apheresis Device Rheocarna in Patients Undergoing Hemodialysis With Chronic Limb‐Threatening Ischemia: A Single‐Center Retrospective Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Chronic limb‐threatening ischemia (CLTI) is a severe form of lower‐extremity artery disease characterized by distal lesions and microcirculatory impairment, limiting revascularization efficacy. Rheocarna is a direct hemoperfusion low‐density lipoprotein (LDL) adsorption device with potential rheological and anti‐inflammatory ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

The roles of plant pathogens in old-growth forests

open access: yesBucovina Forestieră, 2022
Old-growth forests are considered a benchmark for naturalness and models to which one compares managed forests, comparison leading to debates around biodiversity and its conservation, structure and dynamics, polarizing conservationists and forest ...

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.
