Strategically positioned along the road connecting the Dalmatian coast to its hinterland, fortress of Sinj persisted as an inhabited stronghold since ancient times until the end of the 18th century. The fortress developed during the Middle Ages into an urban center and during the Ottoman rule was administrative center of the surrounding area.

This article re-examines an already published source for the population of Ithaca in 1583. It is a census undertaken by the Venetian administrator Petros Kastrofylakas, in which scholars had so far failed to identify the toponyms of Ithaca, and, therefore, supposed that Ithaca was not included.
