Muscle oxygen saturation plateau: Definition and verification in different oxygen availability conditions in locomotor and non‐locomotor muscles

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Novel wearable near‐infrared spectroscopy devices allow for a better understanding of muscle oxygenation kinetics during exercise. A muscle oxygen saturation (SmO2) plateau is often applied in the scientific literature, but clear criteria for its definition remain unestablished to date.

Misdiagnosis of cystic tuberculosis of the olecranon [PDF]

open access: yesDer Orthopäde, 2017
Osteoarticular tuberculosis accounts for only 1-2% of all cases of tuberculosis, and tuberculosis of the olecranon is extremely rare. In the present study, we describe a case of a 54-year-old woman with cystic tuberculosis of the olecranon, which was initially misdiagnosed as a malignant tumor.

Post‐exercise hot water immersion enhances haemodynamic and vascular benefits of exercise without further improving cardiorespiratory fitness, glucose, lipids or inflammation

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Eight weeks of 30‐min moderate‐intensity aerobic exercise followed by 40°C water immersion, on average three times per week, reduces diastolic and mean arterial blood pressure, and increases brachial artery flow‐mediated dilatation more than post‐exercise thermoneutral immersion at 34°C.

Is cranial anatomy indicative of fossoriality? A case study of the mammaliaform Hadrocodium wui

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, Volume 308, Issue 9, Page 2371-2391, September 2025.
Abstract Determining the ecology of fossil species presents considerable challenges due to the often fragmentary preservation of specimens. The mammaliaform Hadrocodium wui from the Jurassic of China is known only from the cranium and mandible but may have had a fossorial lifestyle.

Irisin: A Promising Diagnostic Biomarker at the Interface Between Systemic Inflammation and Skeletal Muscle Dysfunction in Haemodialysis Patients

open access: yesNephrology, Volume 30, Issue 8, August 2025.
ABSTRACT Haemodialysis patients (HD) exhibit a pro‐inflammatory condition associated with catabolic and functional muscle disorders whose diagnosis and therapeutic management require more robust biomarkers. Thus, irisin relevance as a predictor of inflammation severity and muscle dysfunction in HD patients was investigated.
