The management of olfactory disorders
British Journal of Hospital Medicine, 2007Disorders of olfaction affect quality of life and their significance are underestimated. Investigation and diagnosis can help in the early implementation of rehabilitative measures and also in recognizing those forms of olfactory disorders that are potentially treatable.

Olfactory functioning in panic disorder
Journal of Affective Disorders, 2015The olfactory function in panic disorder (PD) has been scarcely approached in the literature. The purpose of this paper is to study this question by focusing on the olfactory sensitivity (i.e. detection threshold), the reactivity to odors, and the odor awareness in patients suffering from PD.41 patients with PD and 41 healthy controls performed Sniffin׳

Olfactory abnormalities in anxiety disorders
Neuroscience Letters, 2012The olfactory system plays an important role in both animal and human anxiety reactions. However, results on olfactory performance during the course of clinical anxiety disorders remain scarce. Therefore, we conducted an exploratory pilot study in 17 patients currently diagnosed with an anxiety disorder.

Smell and taste problems are of major importance to those who suffer from olfactory disorders. The inability to determine the presence of odors in the home and the markedly reduced capacity or incapacity to appreciate food flavors are key reasons given for limited social interaction.

Background: The intravenous olfactory test (alinamin test [AT]) is a retronasal olfactory assessment and may evaluate the flavour disorder; however, studies assessing whether AT accurately determines the severity of taste disorders are lacking. Our study aims to evaluate the relationship between AT and subjective taste disorders in the patiensts with ...

In contrast to what the medical community thought, human olfaction is far more functional and performing than previously believed. Almost fifteen percent of the general population is concerned by an olfactory disorder. The causes of olfactory dysfunction are numerous and in certain cases olfactory alteration precedes neurodegenerative or systemic ...

A re-evaluation of the classification of olfactory epithelia in patients with olfactory disorders
European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology, 1992We have previously demonstrated that human olfactory epithelia can be classified into five grades according to the degree of degeneration present in patients with various kinds of olfactory disorders. In practice, however, the occurrence of additional types of cell changes in other kinds of olfactory disorders and findings with immunohistochemical ...

Scent of a disorder: Olfactory functioning in schizophrenia
Current Psychiatry Reports, 2003The use of olfactory probes to assess frontal and temporal-limbic system functioning in patients with schizophrenia has garnered increasing interest among basic and clinical investigators. Deficits in odor identification, detection threshold sensitivity, discrimination, and memory have been reported and are thought to represent a centrally mediated ...
