To provide a comprehensive review of the literature focusing on the recent advances in the diagnosis and management of olfactory neuroblastoma.Multimodality treatment is usually recommended for the majority of ONB cases. Recent advances in surgical approaches include the evolving role of endonasal endoscopic surgical resection and reconstruction.

Olfactory Neuroblastoma (Esthesioneuroepithelioma)
Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1965ESTHESIONEUROEPITHELIOMA (olfactory neuroblastoma) was described by Berger, Luc, and Richard in France in 1924. 1 In this country such a tumor was first presented by Schall and Linebach 2 and Seaman. 3 Olfactory neuroblastoma is supposedly a rare neurogenic neoplasm arising from the region of the cribriform plate and surrounding olfactory mucous ...

Olfactory Neuroepithelioma (Neuroblastoma)
Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1959The nasal fossa is well supplied with neuroepithelial tissue. Neurogenic tumors of this area are rather uncommon, however, and with the exclusion of benign nasal polyps, are estimated to comprise about 3% of all intranasal tumors. 1 One group of such neoplasms forms rather undifferentiated neuroectodermal tissue in histologic patterns similar to those ...

Olfactory neuroblastoma (ONB) is a malignant neuroectodermal tumor that typically occurs in the superior nasal cavity. It is a distinct entity with features that include nesting, low-grade stippled nuclei, and neurofibrillary stroma with formation of pseudorosettes.

Neuroblastoma of the olfactory nerve
Acta Neurochirurgica, 1971Two cases of an olfactory neuroblastoma are reported. The leading symptom was the increase in intracranial pressure. In spite of radical exstirpation—removal of the intracranial part including the infiltrated brain tissue as well as the part extending into the paranasal sinuses via a bifrontal transcranial approach—and postoperative radiation the ...

Olfactory neuroblastoma is a rare malignant tumour, usually diagnosed at advanced stages. We studied 3 patients who were treated at our Institute between 1991 and 1999. One patient presented with a stage A and 2 with a stage B tumour. One patient presented with coma due to inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone associated with a stage B tumour.

Update on olfactory neuroblastoma
Virchows ArchivOlfactory neuroblastomas are uncommon malignancies that arise from olfactory receptor cells located high in the nasal cavity. Accurate diagnosis plays a crucial role in determining clinical results and guiding treatment decisions. Diagnosis can be a major challenge for pathologists, especially when dealing with tumours with poor differentiation.

Esthesioneuroblastoma is a difficult problem both for the otolaryngologist & pathologist. A high index of suspicion & electron microscopic examination of the tumour is an aid to diagnosis. The five year cure is meaningless for this disease. It is a very rare disease and over 200 cases have been reported in the literature by 1986. Because of its rarity,

Olfactory Neuroblastoma and Sellar Neuroblastoma
2016Olfactory neuroblastoma (ONB), also referred to as esthesioneuroblastoma, is an uncommonly occurring malignant tumor that arises from the olfactory neuroepithelium of the upper nasal cavity and anterior skull base. Tumors that are large enough may extend posteriorly to the sellar region.
