Shorebird responses to fine‐scale water level fluctuations and macrofauna biomass in a newly constructed freshwater wetland

open access: yesRestoration Ecology, Volume 34, Issue 4, May 2026.
Abstract Introduction Restoration of marine and freshwater wetlands for shorebirds is essential for the recovery of their declining populations. An ongoing approach is to restore shorebird habitats by large‐scale engineering, expecting the return of birds once suitable abiotic conditions are (re)established.

Limited contribution by non‐volant small mammals to regeneration in ironstone rocky outcrops

open access: yesRestoration Ecology, Volume 34, Issue 4, May 2026.
Abstract Introduction Animal‐mediated seed dispersal contributes substantially to natural regeneration in degraded areas. However, the role of seed dispersal by non‐volant small mammals (NVSM), mainly marsupials and rodents, in contributing to regeneration remains underexplored, especially in mountaintop, open‐canopy ecosystems.

The influence of taxonomic resolution of Oligochaeta on the evaluation of water quality in an urban stream in Minas Gerais, Brazil A influência da resolução taxonômica de Oligochaeta na avaliação da qualidade da água em um córrego urbano em Minas Gerais, Brasil

open access: yesActa Limnologica Brasiliensia, 2012
OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to verify the identification of specimens of the Oligochaeta in different taxonomic levels (family and species) has the same potential for assessing the water quality of an urban stream in Minas Gerais, Brazil ...

Influência da contaminação de solo por creosoto na ocorrência de Oligochaeta em fragmentos da Mata Atlântica

open access: yesBoletim do Observatório Ambiental Alberto Ribeiro Lamego, 2019
Por sua abundante ocorrência e sua sensibilidade a contaminações e variações da presença de nutrientes, as minhocas são importantes bioindicadores da qualidade do solo.

Impact of Feeding Strategies on Trophic Dynamics, Growth Performance and Sustainability of Nile Tilapia in Semi‐Intensive Aquaculture Systems

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 6, Issue 2, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Feed costs and limited knowledge of feeding strategies are a major constraint to the sustainability of semi‐intensive Nile tilapia aquaculture systems in sub‐Saharan Africa. In semi‐intensive systems, Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) utilizes natural pond production and supplemental feed, but their relative contributions to growth remain ...

First record of Bothrioneurum vejdovskyanum Štolc, 1886 (Oligochaeta, Tubificidae) in Serbia [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Biological Sciences, 2012
We report the discovery of Bothrioneurum vejdovskyanum Štolc, 1886 (Annelida: Oligochaeta: Tubificidae: Rhyacodrilinae) in Serbian freshwaters. Fifteen specimens were found in the middle course of the River Ibar (southern Serbia), at a locality where ...

A Systematic Review of Biofloc Technology and Periphyton in Giant Freshwater Prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) Aquaculture

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 6, Issue 2, April 2026.
Biofloc technology and periphyton‐based systems enhance the sustainable production of giant freshwater prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii). A PRISMA‐guided review (2005 – 2024) shows that BFT improves survival (75 – 78 %) and feed efficiency, while periphyton supports natural productivity in grow‐out.

Periphyton and Benthic Macroinvertebrate Response to Antimycin Piscicide During Brook Trout Restoration

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 6, Issue 2, April 2026.
ABSTRACT The piscicide antimycin has been used as an effective fish toxicant to eradicate nuisance fishes because it is not as detectable by fish as other chemical piscicides. We evaluated the effects of antimycin and its detoxicant, potassium permanganate, on periphyton and benthic macroinvertebrates during a brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis ...
