Parasite fauna of ide, Leuciscus idus (L.) in Lake Dąbie, Poland [PDF]
Background. The previous survey on parasites of ide in Poland was carried out in 1987 and there has been no data available on the parasites of this fish from areas in Poland west of the Vistula River.

Phylogenetic Relationships of the Subclass Peniculia (Oligohymenophorea, Ciliophora) Inferred from Small Subunit rRNA Gene Sequences [PDF]
ABSTRACT. Peniculine ciliates have been recognized as a distinct higher taxon of ciliates for almost 50 years. However, phylogenetic relationships within the Subclass Peniculia are still unsettled. To contribute to our understanding of their phylogeny and provide evidence for the position of Urocentrum turbo, we sequenced its small subunit (SS) rRNA ...

Nuclear events during conjugation in the poorly studied model ciliate Paramecium jenningsi
Ciliated protists are highly differentiated unicellular eukaryotes that possess special sexual processes (conjugation and autogamy) that rely on their unique nuclear dimorphism, i.e., the presence of both a germline micronucleus (MIC) and a somatic ...

Local ciliate communities associated with aquatic macrophytes [PDF]
This study, based within the catchment area of the River Frome, an important chalk stream in the south of England, compared ciliated protozoan communities associated with three species of aquatic macrophyte common to lotic habitats: Ranunculus ...

Paramecium bursaria is a mixotrophic ciliate species, which is common in stagnant and slow-flowing, nutrient-rich waters. It is usually found living in symbiosis with zoochlorellae (green algae) of the genera Chlorella or Micractinium. We investigated P.

Reevaluation of the phylogenetic relationship between Mobilid and Sessilid peritrichs (Ciliophora, Oligohymenophorea) based on small subunit rRNA genes sequences [PDF]
Based on morphological characters, peritrich ciliates (Class Olygohymenophorea, Subclass Peritrichia) have been subdivided into the Orders Sessilida and Mobilida.

Molecular Polymorphism of Strains within Paramecium septaurelia (Ciliophora, Oligohymenophorea)
RAPD-PCR fingerprinting and ARDRA riboprinting revealed polymorphism within P. septaurelia strains from Russia (4 strains from Lower Volga Basin), and one strain from USA, Florida. However, the first method showed the existence of four RAPD genotypes while the second revealed only two groups of strains with different band patterns.

Phylogenomic analysis of integral diiron membrane histidine motif-containing enzymes in ciliates provides insights into their function and evolutionary relationships [PDF]
The Integral Membrane Histidine Motif-containing Enzymes (IMHME) are a class of binuclear non-heme iron proteins widely distributed among prokaryotes and eukaryotes.
