Neonatal Hemoperitoneum Secondary to Hemorrhage from Omental Venous Malformation

Hemoperitoneum in the neonate is uncommon. We report our experience with a neonate who suddenly developed hemoperitoneum in late gestation. Ascites with right pleural effusion initially suggested fetal hydrops.

A 41-year-old Chinese woman was admitted to our hospital with epigastric pain. Computed tomography detected a heterogeneous enhancement tumor fed by the left gastroepiploic artery in the left lower quadrant and cholelithiasis. Excision of the tumor in the greater omentum and cholecystectomy were performed laparoscopically.

Abstract Background Intraoperative ureteral injury, although uncommon, can result in significant morbidity and medicolegal consequences, particularly during complex gynecologic procedures such as endometriosis excision and prolapse repair.
