Nested polygonal chain mapping of omnidirectional video

2017 IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP), 2017
Conventionally, the equirectangular projection (ERP) has been used for representing 360-degree panorama videos. However, ERP suffers from over stretching in polar regions and thus increases the bitrate and the encoding/decoding complexity. This paper presents the nested polygonal chain packing method where the top and bottom stripes of an ERP picture ...

ICDAR2017 Robust Reading Challenge on Omnidirectional Video

2017 14th IAPR International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition (ICDAR), 2017
Results of ICDAR 2017 Robust Reading Challenge on Omnidirectional Video are presented. This competition uses Downtown Osaka Scene Text (DOST) Dataset that was captured in Osaka, Japan with an omnidirectional camera. Hence, it consists of sequential images (videos) of different view angles.

Omnidirectional video delivery with decoder instance reduction

Internet Technology Letters, 2018
The omnidirectional media streaming system as specified in motion pictures expert group (MPEG) is discussed. The paper provides a description of the viewport‐dependent delivery using adaptive bit rate streaming technology. It also describes the extractor method: an encapsulation technique defined in the ISO Base Media File Format.

H.264 BASED CODING OF OMNIDIRECTIONAL VIDEO

2006
Omnidirectional video is an adequate image-based scene representation data format for interactive walkthroughs or surround viewing of a scene over the Internet. While efficient compression is a key issue in this context, the properties of omnidirectional video are not in line with the assumptions that are made about video sequences by modern ...

A Framework to Evaluate Omnidirectional Video Coding Schemes

2015 IEEE International Symposium on Mixed and Augmented Reality, 2015
Omnidirectional videos of real world environments viewed on head-mounted displays with real-time head motion tracking can offer immersive visual experiences. For live streaming applications, compression is critical to reduce the bitrate. Omnidirectional videos, which are spherical in nature, are mapped onto one or more planes before encoding to ...

Adaptive Motion Vector Prediction for Omnidirectional Video

2018 IEEE Visual Communications and Image Processing (VCIP), 2018
Omnidirectional video is widely used in virtual reality applications in order to create the immersive experience to the user. Such content is projected onto a 2D image plane in order to make it suitable for compression purposes by using current standard codecs.

Omnidirectional Video Quality Metrics and Evaluation Process

2017 Data Compression Conference (DCC), 2017
Widespread of virtual reality technologies across entertainment formats has created a diverse infrastructure of related technologies as head-mount displays, dome screens and virtual reality multi-camera platforms. As omnidirectional content is processing pipeline is completely different form conventional planar video and involves multiple conversion ...
