THERE have been 134 cases of patent omphalomesenteric duct reported, which figure probably does not reflect its true incidence. Of this number, 30 have been complicated by ileal prolapse, with only four operative recoveries. Many of these reports were made before the advent of present-day surgical technics and antibiotic adjuncts.

2009The omphalomesenteric (or vitellointestinal) duct is an embryonic communication between the primitive yolk sac and the developing midgut. During normal development at the 6th week of embryogenesis, the midgut loop elongates and herniates into the umbilical cord.

Pediatrics, 1957THE PURPOSE of this paper is to report a recent case of an umbilical polyp and intestinal obstruction during the neonatal period. Umbilical polyps are rare. When present, they may be associated with Meckel's diverticulum because both are remnants of the omphalomesenteric duct.
