Current Problems in Diagnostic Radiology, 2015The omphalomesenteric duct (OMD) or the vitelline duct (VD) is the embryologic communication between the yolk sac and the primitive midgut. OMD or VD anomalies are a group of defects resulting from failure of involution of the OMD. Meckel diverticulum is the most common anomaly that results from failure of resorption of the OMD.

[Complications caused by remnants of the omphalomesenteric duct].
Zentralblatt fur Chirurgie, 199131 cases of complicated remnants of the omphalomesenteric duct are reviewed. In particular mechanical just as often as inflammatory complications are noted. There was a predominance of male infants with a mean age of 3.5 years. Surgery is recommended even for still non complicated Meckel's diverticula in childhood. There was no mortality.
