Avhandlingen er basert på feltarbeid utført i Agadir, Marokko fra 1. desember 2004 til 1. juni 2005. Hovedtema er arbeidsledighet i den tredje verden, og feltets målgruppe er unge arbeidsløse. Marokkos innbyggertall oversteg 33 millioner i 2005, hvorav 60 % var under 25 år, definert som et ”ungdomsproblem”.
