Lactate dehydrogenase from adult Setaria digitata (Nematoda: Onchocercidae)

Veterinary Parasitology, 1989
Lactate dehydrogenase of Setaria digitata exhibited an optimum pH of 7.0-8.0 and showed resistance to high temperature. The inhibition/activation of various anions differed in both the forward and backward directions. Filarin (a drug used in Siddha medicine) and diethylcarbamazine (DEC) inhibited pyruvate reduction rather than lactate oxidation.

Cryopreservation of Infective Larvae of Onchocerca volvulus (Filarioidea: Onchocercidae)

The Journal of Parasitology, 1993
Infective larvae (L3) of Onchocerca volvulus were procured in Liberia, West Africa, in the natural black fly vector, Simulium yahense. A cryobiological technique was developed to preserve L3 of O. volvulus that were fully viable after thawing. Larvae were treated before cooling with 4 cryoprotective compounds. Three compounds, dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO),

sucker of whole worms (Figs. 1-5). Only the flammiferous tubules of the excretory system, and not the siphonal tube or excretory bladder (see Mueller, 1935, Journal of Parasitology 21: 99-103) reacted in whole worms (Figs. 1, 2) and cryostat sections. The reaction in the flammiferous tubules was more intense in 1-3 than 4-6day-old whole worms (Figs.

Histochemical distribution of hydrolytic enzymes in adultOnchocerca fasciata (Filarioidea: Onchocercidae)

Parasitology Research, 1994
Histochemical techniques were employed to study the tissue distribution of hydrolytic enzymes in adult female Onchocerca fasciata (Filarioidea: Onchocercidae). Different tissues differed considerably in the localization and distribution of the six enzymes studied.

Status of Onchocerca volvulus (Spirurida: Onchocercidae) Transmission and Effect of Climatic Variables on the Vector Population Dynamics After Two Decades of Ivermectin-based Preventive Chemotherapy in the Mbam Valley (Centre Region, Cameroon)

Journal of medical entomology, 2022
Entomological indicators of onchocerciasis transmission and the effect of climatic variables on the vector population dynamics were investigated in two first-line villages after more than two decades of mass drug administration with ivermectin.

Metabolomic analysis of larval stages of Onchocerca japonica (Spirurida: Onchocercidae), raised in black fly (Diptera: Simuliidae) vectors, by gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry.

Acta Tropica
To monitor and prevent the spread of zoonotic onchocerciasis, identification of the natural vectors (blood-sucking insects) of its causative agents, Onchocerca species, is crucial.

POPULATIONS AND SITE SELECTION OF DIROFILARIA URSI (NEMATODA: ONCHOCERCIDAE) IN AMERICAN BLACK BEARS (URSUS AMERICANUS)

Journal of Wildlife Diseases, 2022
: A total of 4,846 (84.5±87.15, 3–429: mean±SD, range) subadult or adult Dirofilaria ursi were recovered from 56 American black bears (Ursus americanus) in Ontario, 1975–77. Yearling bears had fewer worms than older bears; age classes greater than 2.5 yr

Chandlerella quiscali (Onchocercidae: Filarioidea): Cryopreservation and postfreezing viability of microfilaria in chickens

Experimental Parasitology, 1978
Abstract Microfilariae of Chandlerella quiscali were collected from the heart and lung blood of common grackles (Quiscalus quiscula) and known numbers were suspended in cryoprotectants containing dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) or glycerol. The microfilarial suspensions were placed in glass ampoules and frozen to −68 C using 3 to 5 C/min and 3 to 5 C/sec ...
