Induction of precocious sexual maturity in male pink salmon (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha)

Canadian Journal of Zoology, 1972
In the juvenile male pink salmon (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha) complete sexual maturity was attained by September in the year of hatching with thrice-weekly treatments of 10.0 and 1.0 μg partially purified salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) gonadotropin (SG-G100) per gram body weight.

Isolation of major histocompatibility complex class I cDNA from pink salmon (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha)

Developmental & Comparative Immunology, 1996
An MHC class I cDNA clone was isolated from pink salmon (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha). Eight amino acids, which have been shown in mammals to bind main-chain atoms of peptides, are well conserved in the salmon alpha 1 and alpha 2 domains. Nine amino acids in the alpha 3 domain are classified by Williams and Barclay (Ref. 1. Ann. Rev. Immunol.

Kinetics of salmon (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha) quality changes during thermal processing

2007
The objective of this study was to investigate the reaction kinetics along with changes in salmon quality during high temperature thermal processing. Small samples (D 30 mm H 6 mm) cut from pink salmon (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha) fillets were sealed in aluminum containers and heated in an oil bath to simulate a commercial thermal process.

Expression of the calcitonin gene during migration of the pacific salmon, Oncorhynchus gorbuscha

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1990
Plasma calcitonin levels increase during reproduction in female salmon. Whether these changes in circulating levels of the hormone are due to increased secretion and or increased biosynthesis is not established. We measured total and poly A+ RNAs and calcitonin content of ultimobranchial bodies of male and female pink salmon during the different stages

Blood lactate concentrations in pink salmon (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha) before and after spawning

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Comparative Biochemistry, 1972
Abstract 1. 1. Unspawned pink salmon were captured on their fresh-water spawning grounds. Serial blood samples were withdrawn via an indwelling aortic catheter and analyzed for lactate ion. 2. 2. Following postoperative recovery a progressive increase in circulating lactate was observed which continued for up to 10 days.

Circadian rhythm of swimming activity in juvenile pink salmon (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha)

Marine Biology, 1981
The circadian rhythm of swimming activity and the role of the daily illumination cycle in the synchronization of this rhythm were studied in individual juvenile pink salmon. Sixty eight percent of all fish examined (n=38) were day-active when exposed to a 12 h L:12 h D cycle; the remaining fish were nocturnally active. One half of the fish tested under

Identification of the sex chromosome pair in chum salmon (Oncorhynchus keta) and pink salmon (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha).

Cytogenetic and genome research, 2007
Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) using a probe to the male-specific GH-Y (growth hormone pseudogene) was used to identify the Y chromosome in the karyotypes of chum salmon (Oncorhynchus keta) and pink salmon (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha). The sex chromosome pair is a small acrocentric chromosome pair in chum salmon and the smallest metacentric ...
