Formation of ondansetron polymorphs

International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 1999
We used differential scanning calorimetry, infrared spectrophotometry and 1H nuclear magnetic resonance imaging to search for polymorphs of ondansetron. Samples were tested under different conditions of temperature, pulverization and pH, and in different solvents.

Ondansetron Clinical Pharmacokinetics

Clinical Pharmacokinetics, 1995
Ondansetron is a potent and highly selective serotonin 5-HT3-receptor antagonist which has demonstrated important antiemetic activity and good tolerability in the prevention of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting. Ondansetron is completely and rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after oral administration, and does not accumulate with ...

Extrapyramidal Reactions to Ondansetron: Cross-Reactivity Between Ondansetron and Prochlorperazine?

Anesthesia & Analgesia, 2003
Ondansetron can rarely induce extrapyramidal reactions in susceptible individuals. Our patient had a history of drug-induced dystonic reaction; therefore, these patients may be susceptible to extrapyramidal adverse reactions after ondansetron.

Is Ondansetron Cost Effective?

PharmacoEconomics, 1994
5-Hydroxytryptamine3 (5-HT3) receptor antagonists are a major breakthrough in the prevention of nausea and vomiting induced by cancer chemotherapy. The acquisition cost of these drugs is considerably higher than for more conventional antiemetics. In this study, the authors reported on the economic consequences of giving ondansetron in Thomas Jefferson ...

Comparison of Ondansetron with Ondansetron Plus Dexamethasone in the Prevention of Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting

Anesthesia & Analgesia, 1994
The purpose of this double-blind, randomized study was to compare the effectiveness of ondansetron plus saline versus ondansetron plus dexamethasone in the prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting. Of 180 women having general anesthesia for major gynecologic surgery, 89 received intravenous ondansetron, 4 mg, plus saline (Group 1) and 91 ...

Ondansetron Use for Smoking Cessation

Annals of Pharmacotherapy, 1995
Cigarette smoking continues to make an important impact on the health status and costs of care in the US. Animal studies demonstrated that ondansetron is effective in decreasing withdrawal behaviour and have led to interest in its role in smoking cessation. One small trial tested the effects of ondansetron as an aid to change smoking behaviors.
