AbstractWhen cyclic loads are applied to the soil, the deformation may increase significantly depending upon the magnitude of load and nature of soil. Cyclic loads such as those induced by traffic on motorways and railways, ocean waves are long-term, sometimes including drainage during or after cyclic loading, resulting consolidation.

The one-dimensional consolidation of the test specimens in a triaxial cell is often used to simulate field conditions. During this process, the clay particles acquire an orientation which endows the material with cross anisotropic properties. The design of a pneumatic system which performs such an operation automatically is described herein.

The theory is based on two foundations: the ideal discrete space-time structure of matter, and the principle of the mean value. Discontinuous matter is described by the influence domain of a point or node.
