Mechanisms of shear resistance of one-way concrete slabs reinforced with FRP bars
Construction and Building Materials, 2016Abstract The shear behavior of concrete reinforced with fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) but without web reinforcement is potentially the most critical case in shear-prone applications due to the brittle nature of the concrete and reinforcement and, as such, requires special attention.

One-Way Shear in Wide Concrete Beams with Narrow Supports
Structures Congress 2008, 2008Wide reinforced concrete beams are frequently used as primary structural members in buildings or bridges, to support floor loads and to transfer forces from discontinuous walls or columns above. In these roles, these critical members may in turn be supported on walls extending across the full width of the beam, or on narrower columns.

Headed Shear Reinforcement Assemblies for One-Way Shear
ACI Structural Journal, 2009It has been shown previously that the use of shear reinforcement improves the strength and ductility of large beams and thick slabs. The corresponding impact on member constructibility and economy from provisions of code-specified minimum shear reinforcement ratios can be significant.

Bending and Shear Behavior in One-Way Dapped-End Reinforced Concrete Slabs
ACI Structural Journal, 2019Six one-way reinforced concrete slabs, simply supported along the short sides by means of corbels (dapped ends), were recently tested for bending and shear behavior in Milan under two different crosswise load distributions and with three partially different reinforcement layouts in the supporting corbels and in the main body (size 2200 x 1300 mm [7.22 ...

One-way shear design method based on a multi-action model
ACI Concrete International, 2017It is widely known that the shear strength of a reinforced concrete (RC) or prestressed concrete (PC) beam results from the interaction of different resisting actions. Thus, available simplified shear models emphasize different resisting actions. The model described herein is a simplification of the multi-action shear model the authors developed.

Initial shear demand in beams and one-way slabs subjected to blast load
Structures, 2021Abstract Experimental evidence shows that a beam that can develop a flexural mechanism of failure under static load may fail in shear under blast load during its initial stages of response. Shear failure limits the ability of the beam to “absorb” the energy imparted by blast load.

Influence of Longitudinal Reinforcement on One-Way Shear in Slabs and Wide Beams
Journal of Structural Engineering, 2009Sectional shear models for slender reinforced concrete members developed by several research groups differ in the treatment of longitudinal reinforcement details when evaluating one-way shear capacity. Some models relate the shear capacity directly to the geometric reinforcement ratio while others consider the influence of reinforcement strain or ...

One-Way Shear Strength of Thick Slabs and Wide Beams
ACI Structural Journal, 2006This paper discusses nine recent tests designed to investigate if current provisions for one-way shear in the ACI 318-05 Building Code are unconservative when applied to thick slabs or large, wide beams. The tests addressed the influence of member width and the presence of shrinkage and temperature reinforcement, which are two factors that may ...
