Crack Control in Beams and One-Way Slabs
Journal of the Korea Concrete Institute, 2012The KCI Building Code (2003 and 2007) provisions to control flexural cracking in beams and one-way slabs are discussed for related researches and the development of the provisions. Based on the basic ideas over the development of current provisions, possible problems with cracking control are identified and discussed for the remedies to fix the ...

Compressive membrane action in RC one-way slabs
Engineering Structures, 2018Abstract The static boundary conditions of reinforced concrete members often prevent longitudinal expansion by way of friction, restraints, etc. This restraint to the longitudinal expansion of reinforced concrete members induces membrane stresses which can cause compressive membrane action (CMA), resulting in an increase in the structural capacities.

Flexural Capacity evaluation of One-way Hollow Half Slab and General Hollow Slab
Journal of the Architectural Institute of Korea Structure and Construction, 2014Hollow slab and half slab are applied to many structures in accordance with increase of demand for high-rise buildings because of recent phenomenon of urban overcrowding. In case of using a hollow slab as flooring system, the weight of slab would be reduced so that economical construction could be possible. Using the half slab in floor system makes the

Minimum Cost Selection of One-Way Slab Thickness
Journal of the Structural Division, 1975Considerable cost savings can result from the design of one-way reinforced concrete slabs, beams of constant width, and footings based on cost minimization techniques of flexural capacity. Equations for minimum cost slab depth are developed and a simple iterative method of their solution is presented.

Tests of One-Way Post-Tensioned Slabs With Unbonded Tendons
PCI Journal, 1978T provisions in the ACI Building Code (ACI 318-77)1 for prestressed concrete recognize a difference in the amount of mild steel required for ultimate strength and crack control between bonded and unbonded members. However, the ACI Code equations are based mainly on experience with and tests on beams with relatively low span/depth ratios compared to ...

Crack Control in Post-Tensioned One-Way Slab Systems
SP-225: Serviceability of Concrete: A Symposium Honoring Dr. Edward G. Nawy, 2005This paper presents an alternative procedure for computing restrained stresses induced by shrinkage and temperature effects. A method is proposed by which an equivalent shrinkage stress is calculated. The stress obtained is then used to design the shrinkage and temperature tendons.

Compressive membrane action in reinforced concrete one-way slabs
Australian Journal of Structural Engineering, 2004The behaviour of reinforced concrete one-way slabs subjected to horizontal translational end restraint is described in this paper. The presence of the end restraint induces compressive membrane action in the slab, increasing its strength and stiffness above that calculated using flexural theory. The experimental component of this investigation involved

Design Aids for Singly-Reinforced Beams and One-Way Slabs
ACI Journal Proceedings, 1975Graphs have been prepared for the design or analysis of singly reinforced beams and one-way slabs using the strength design method. A concrete strength of 3000 psi and a reinforcing steel strength of 60,000 psi has been used. Beams and slabs can be analyzed or designed by using these graphs. Two design examples are included to illustrate the use of the
