Imaging complex salt bodies with turning‐wave one‐way wave equation

SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2006, 2006
We propose a modified version of one-way wave equation migration which incorporates true amplitude corrections to enhance steep dips and propagates wavefields to any possible directions. With this new method, turning waves can be properly imaged and the imaging capability of one-way wave equation is greatly improved.

One-way wave-equation migration in log-polar coordinates

GEOPHYSICS, 2013
We obtained acoustic wave and wavefield extrapolation equations in log-polar coordinates (LPCs) and tried to enhance the imaging. To achieve this goal, it was necessary to decrease the angle between the wavefield extrapolation axis and wave propagation direction in the one-way wave-equation migration (WEM).

The one-way wave equation and its invariance properties

Journal of Physics A: Mathematical and Theoretical, 2009
The harmonic wave equation in inhomogeneous media is exactly split into coupled first-order equations with respect to a principal direction of propagation according to the Bremmer scheme. The resulting one-way wave equation is shown not to conserve energy flux for dimensions two and three against the general belief in one-way wave propagation or ...

Dip angle-compensated one-way wave equation migration

Exploration Geophysics, 2010
Conventional migration algorithms based on one-way wave equations in a Cartesian coordinate system often underestimateamplitudes, especiallyatlargepropagationorreflectionangles.Thishasadeleteriouseffectonseismicimages and should be corrected. Full-waveform inversion using the one-way wave equation

13th International Congress of the Brazilian Geophysical Society & EXPOGEF, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 26–29 August 2013, 2013
The classical full-waveform inversion is a method for obtaining detailed velocity models of the subsurface, formulated as an inverse problem, in which modeling and adjoint operators use the two-way wave equation. Solving the wave equation with the two-way propagator is computationally demanding when compared to the less accurate one-way propagator ...

The Theory of True Amplitude One-Way Wave Equation Migrations

Chinese Journal of Geophysics, 2006
AbstractIn this technical report, we review the recent development of true amplitude one‐way wave equation migration and summarize the migrated amplitude performance from different one‐way wave equations. To produce correct amplitude from postack phase‐shift migration, we have to apply accurate geometrical spreading compensation in preprocessing ...

Imaging Complex Salt Bodies with Turning-Wave One-Way Wave Equation Migration

68th EAGE Conference and Exhibition incorporating SPE EUROPEC 2006, 2006
In this paper we propose a modified version of the one-way wave equation migration that can propagate wavefields to any possible direction. Also, we incorporate true amplitude corrections in the migration to enhance steep dips. With this new method, turning waves are properly imaged.

Two-way wave equation depth migration using one-way propagator extrapolation

Exploration Geophysics, 2021
Two-way wave depth migration (TWDM) can achieve a wider imaging angle in media with significant lateral velocity changes and better imaging results for complex structures with high dip angles than in conventional one-way wave depth migration ...

Efficient wavefield separation by reformulation of two-way wave-equation depth-extrapolation scheme

Geophysics, 2022
In two-way wave equation depth migration by either time-extrapolation or depth-extrapolation, an efficient wavefield separation scheme (to separate two-way wavefields to their one-way counterparts: down- and up-going waves) is typically required for high
