One third of alloantibodies in patients with sickle cell disease transfused with African blood are missed by the standard red blood cell test panel [PDF]

open access: goldHaematologica, 2021
Studies on red blood cell (RBC) antibodies in Africa routinely use standard test cells from donors of Caucasian descent. There are no systematic data on alloimmunization against antigens that are almost exclusively present in Africans. We studied the prevalence of antibodies in transfused Ghanaian patients with sickle cell disease (SCD) using standard ...

Do Cell Group Independent Activities Impact Students’ Score Achievement? [PDF]

open access: yesHumaniora, 2012
There are many methods offered to teach in a university level. In teaching English Entrant, one course of general English courses at Binus University, a lecturer needs to choose an appropriate method.

A new cell line based coculture system for skin sensitisation testing in one single assay using T cells, aryl hydrocarbon receptor knockout, and co-inhibitory blockage [PDF]

open access: hybridArchives of Toxicology, 2023
AbstractEstablished in vitro assays for regulatory testing of skin sensitisation partly suffer from only moderate sensitivity, specificity, and predictivity when testing specific groups of chemicals. This may be due to limited biomarker response in vitro in cell types that interact as crucial players of in vivo skin sensitisation pathogenesis. Here, we

An effective “three-in-one” screening assay for testing drug and nanoparticle toxicity in human endothelial cells

open access: goldPLOS ONE, 2018
Evaluating nanoparticle (NP) toxicity in human cell systems is a fundamental requirement for future NP biomedical applications. In this study, we have designed a screening assay for assessing different types of cell death induced by NPs in human umbilical vein endothelial cell (HUVEC) culture.

Phenotypic Antibiotic Susceptibility Testing at the limit of one bacterial cell [PDF]

open access: green
The blood of a septic patient contains only a few bacteria per milliliter. Recently, various techniques have been developed for extracting these few bacteria from a blood sample. Independent of how these bacteria are separated from the blood cells, we want to learn from them how to treat the infection.

Use of amplicon-based sequencing for testing fetal identity and monogenic traits with Single Circulating Trophoblast (SCT) as one form of cell-based NIPT

open access: goldPLOS ONE, 2021
A major challenge for cell-based non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) is to distinguish individual presumptive fetal cells from maternal cells in female pregnancies. We have sought a rapid, robust, versatile, and low-cost next-generation sequencing method to facilitate this process.

Evaluation of the in vivo cosmetic efficacy of the MF3 blue cell serum gel. One‐ and two‐month test results [PDF]

open access: hybridJournal of Cosmetic Dermatology, 2017
SummaryIntroductionSkin is changing over time showing signs of aging: dryness, increase in visual and tactile roughness, decrease in collagen content and stiffness, and eventually formation of deep and surface wrinkles, and fine lines.MethodsEight‐week open experimental study was conducted to test efficacy of MF3 Blue Cell Serum Gel.

Synthesis of Substituted Thieno[2,3‐d]pyrimidin‐4‐ones and Their Testing for Evaluation of Cytotoxic Activity on Mammalian Cell Models [PDF]

open access: hybridJournal of Chemistry, 2012
From 2‐amino‐3‐ethoxycarbonyl‐4,5‐dimethyl‐, ‐polymethylenethiophenes (1-4) were synthesized 2,3‐disubstituted thieno[2,3‐d]dihydropyrrolo‐, tetrahydropyrido‐, and tetrahydroazepino[1,2‐a]pyrimidin‐4‐ones (5-16) for pharmacological investigations. The 12 compounds (5-16) were individually evaluated for their antiproliferative activities on mammalian ...

Changes to the Electrolyte in NMC640/Graphite Li-Ion Pouch Cells Tested for One Year at 85 °C

open access: hybridJournal of The Electrochemical Society
Single crystal Li[Ni0.6Mn0.4Co0.0]O2/graphite pouch cells with electrolytes of varying lithium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide (LiFSI) concentrations from 0.2 to 1.0 M underwent about one year of cycling between 3.0 and 3.9 V at 85 °C before reaching 80% remaining capacity.

80,000 current on/off cycles in a one year long steam electrolysis test with a solid oxide cell

open access: hybridInternational Journal of Hydrogen Energy, 2020
Abstract The current ON/OFF switching of a solid oxide electrolysis cell is treated as elementary step for power variation in a steam electrolyser system. If the cell voltage in the ON mode is adjusted to the thermal neutral voltage, heat generation remains zero in both modes, which largely facilitates the thermal management.
