MRI of the lung (3/3)-current applications and future perspectives [PDF]
BACKGROUND: MRI of the lung is recommended in a number of clinical indications. Having a non-radiation alternative is particularly attractive in children and young subjects, or pregnant women.

One-lung ventilation: For how long? [PDF]
Lung injury induced by one-lung ventilation is rare, but it is a condition that may result in high mortality. This study evaluates the effects of one-lung ventilation and occlusion time on collapsed and contralateral lungs.Sprague-Dawley rats were allocated randomly into 7 groups consisting of 6 animals each: sham; O1, 1 hour of occlusion/2 hours of re-

Management of Mechanical Ventilation in Decompensated Heart Failure. [PDF]
Mechanical ventilation (MV) is a life-saving intervention for respiratory failure, including decompensated congestive heart failure. MV can reduce ventricular preload and afterload, decrease extra-vascular lung water, and decrease the work of breathing ...

Background One-lung ventilation is a standard technique for thoracic anesthesia. Usually, one-lung ventilation requires a large-bore tracheal tube. Therefore, in patients with vocal cord morbidity, it is challenging to achieve one-lung ventilation while ...

Unilateral bronchospasm during one-lung ventilation [PDF]
taken several minutes later with the patient in the supine position ruled out pneumothorax but showed decreased air entry to the right lung, indicating unilateral bronchospasm. With infusion of aminophylline 250 mg, it became possible to ventilate the right lung, and the EtCO2 waveforms reappeared. Auscultation of the chest showed weak wheezing.

Severe hypoxemia during carinal resection in the lateral position under one-lung ventilation of a non-dependent lung: a case report [PDF]
During one-lung ventilation (OLV) in the lateral position, the dependent, ventilated lung receives more blood flow than the non-dependent, non-ventilated lung owing to gravity, improving the match of ventilation and perfusion.

One lung ventilation techniques in infants and small children
Introduction: In children below six years old, OLV is challenging due to technical issues such as unavailable double-lumen tube(DLT) for this age group, unavailable visual-assisted airway technology in pediatric sizes and the unfamiliarity to pediatric ...

Ligation of protease-activated receptor 1 enhances alpha(v)beta(6) integrin-dependent TGF-beta activation and promotes acute lung injury [PDF]
Activation of latent TGF-beta by the alpha(v)beta(6) integrin is a critical step in the development of acute lung injury. However, the mechanism by which a alpha(v)beta(6)-mediated TGF-beta activation is regulated has not been identified.
