Individual Privacy and Online Services

open access: yes2011 44th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences, 2011
We explore consumer trade-offs between better performance through tailoring of online services to their individual needs and greater privacy as a result of reduced disclosure of personal information. We show that individuals have different willingness to accept loss of privacy that is a function of (1) the individual and his/her preferences, because ...

Continual Learning for Multimodal Data Fusion of a Soft Gripper

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Models trained on a single data modality often struggle to generalize when exposed to a different modality. This work introduces a continual learning algorithm capable of incrementally learning different data modalities by leveraging both class‐incremental and domain‐incremental learning scenarios in an artificial environment where labeled data is ...

Multiphoton‐Printed Microrobotic Arrays Powered by Discrete, Monolithically Integrated Hydrogel Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Functional surfaces are investigated as a foundation for reconfigurable microscale systems with sensing and actuation capabilities. Advances in additive manufacturing enable our development of planar arrays of hybrid‐material, compliant microdevices that convert environmental stimuli into programmed motion and visual responses.

The Economics of Privacy [PDF]

open access: yes
In this chapter, we review economic analyses of privacy. We begin by scrutinizing the "free market" argument against privacy regulation, and highlight why it may not work well for personal information because welfare may be non-monotone in the quantity ...

Decoding IGLL5 Mutation‐Mediated BCR Signaling: A Novel Mechanism of CD8+ T Cell Exhaustion and Ocular MALT Lymphoma Progression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
OAML harbors recurrent IGLL5 mutations that reinforce CD79A/CD79B‐associated BCR signaling. Mechanistic analysis of the S47G and A54G variants reveals induction of CXCL10/CXCL11, enhanced CD8+ T‐cell recruitment, and exhaustion‐associated dysfunction, supporting an immune‐tolerant niche.

Simple online privacy for Australia

open access: yesFirst Monday, 2016
Simple Privacy provides a system for Australian organisations to create privacy policies for the personal information they collect online. The privacy policies it creates are legally compliant and easy to understand. We developed this system because small Australian organisations seemed to find privacy policies too complicated to manage with the ...

3D Chromatin Architecture Provides Insights Into Leaf Trait Variation Among Pear Species

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Three‐dimensional (3D) chromatin architecture plays a fundamental role in eukaryotic gene regulations, its functional significance in perennial fruit trees remains poorly characterized despite extensive applications in crop genomics. Here, we developed high‐resolution (∼5 kb) Hi‐C maps of Pyrus and compared 3D genomic architecture of three ...
