An operating system for an online transaction processing system with a heavy load

open access: closedSystems and Computers in Japan, 2002
AbstractIn this paper, we describe an operating system for terminal controller which controls communication lines and terminals in a large‐scaled distributed transaction processing system. Since the controller deals with a lot of transaction requests from terminals concurrently, its operating system needs to mange resources efficiently in order to ...

Open online transaction processing with the TUXEDO system

open access: closedDigest of Papers COMPCON Spring 1992, 2003
The authors present an overview of the TUXEDO Enterprise Transaction Processing System, which provides a UNIX system-based transaction processing monitor System/T, designed to enable the integration of many different components of online transaction processing (OLTP) in an open systems environment.

A Composite Benchmark for Online Transaction Processing and Operational Reporting

open access: closed2008 IEEE Symposium on Advanced Management of Information for Globalized Enterprises (AMIGE), 2008
Up-to-date data is of immense importance for operational reporting. Global enterprises require such a high throughput during daily operations that reporting systems had to be separated from the transactional system to avoid inhibiting performance. These architectures, however, do not provide the required reporting flexibility as the data set is a pre ...

Time-lag duplexing-a fault tolerance technique for online transaction processing systems

open access: closedProceedings Pacific Rim International Symposium on Fault-Tolerant Systems, 2002
In this paper the concept of time-lag duplexing is proposed to achieve fault tolerance. Time-lag duplexing incorporates time and component redundancy to provide for transient errors both easy error recovery and tolerance against errors in common irredundant components. As a result, minimum performance and cost penalties are incurred.

Performance Monitoring and Analysis of a Large Online Transaction Processing System

open access: closed, 2008
A large Employee Appraisal System is accessed by clients from different international locations using the Internet. Being a distributed system, it is not easy to monitor and assess performance of such a large online transaction processing (OLTP) system.

Advanced pattern recognition for detection of complex software aging phenomena in online transaction processing servers

open access: closedProceedings International Conference on Dependable Systems and Networks, 2003
Software aging phenomena have been recently studied; one particularly complex type is shared memory pool latch contention in large OLTP servers. Latch contention onset leads to severe performance degradation until a manual rejuvenation of the DBMS shared memory pool is triggered.
