In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

La aspiración de origen nasal en la evolución fonológica del euskera: un caso de 'rhinoglottophilia'

open access: yesAnuario del Seminario de Filología Vasca "Julio de Urquijo", 2008
From a typological perspective, the diachronic correspondence -n- > -h- is perhaps the most marked development in the phonological history of the Basque language. The examples of such a process of sound change are extremely scarce around the world and

Brain MR Spectroscopy Changes Precede Frontotemporal Lobar Degeneration Phenoconversion in Mapt Mutation Carriers. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Background and purposeThe objective of this study was to longitudinally investigate the trajectory of change in 1 H MRS measurements in asymptomatic MAPT mutation carriers who became symptomatic during follow-up, and to determine the time at which the ...

Correspondence of the sign change in organic magnetoresistance with the onset of bipolar charge transport

open access: yesApplied Physics Letters, 2008
In this work we examine the transition between positive and negative organic magnetoresistance in poly[2-methoxy-5-(3′, 7′-dimethyloctyloxy)-p-phenylenevinylene] in order to understand how different regimes of charge transport affect the organic magnetoresistance effect. To characterize the charge transport in these devices we measured the current, low

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Normal-state charge transport in YBa2Cu3O6.67 under uniaxial stress

open access: yesnpj Quantum Materials, 2022
To provide a foundation for theoretical models of high-temperature superconductivity, experimental research has sought to establish correspondences between macroscopic transport coefficients on the one hand, and atomic-scale correlation functions ...

Plasma lysosphingolipids in GRN-related diseases: Monitoring lysosomal dysfunction to track disease progression

open access: yesNeurobiology of Disease, 2023
GRN mutations are among the main genetic causes of frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Considering the progranulin involvement in lysosomal homeostasis, we aimed to evaluate if plasma lysosphingolipids (lysoSPL) are increased in GRN mutation carriers, and ...

Evidence for the p-center syllable-nucleus-onset correspondence hypothesis

open access: yesZAS Papers in Linguistics, 1996
The question of whether or not the vowel onset is the parameter responsible for the rhythmical alignment in timing speech utterances still remains unclear. The experiment described here supports the hypothesis of a congruence between the mental representation of the syllable-nucleus-onset and the moment of occururence or so-called p-center.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Initial POLAR MFE observation of substorm signatures in the polar magnetosphere [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
This paper studies substorm influences in the polar magnetosphere using data from the POLAR magnetic field experiment (MFE). The POLAR spacecraft remains in the high altitude polar magnetosphere for extended periods around apogee.
