Rayleigh–wave tomography of the Ontong–Java Plateau
Physics of the Earth and Planetary Interiors, 2000Abstract The deep structure of the Ontong–Java Plateau (OJP) in the westcentral Pacific is investigated through a 2-year deployment of four PASSCAL seismic stations used in a passive tomographic experiment. Single-path inversions of 230 Rayleigh waveforms from 140 earthquakes mainly located in the Solomon Trench confirm the presence of an extremely ...

A younger and protracted emplacement of the Ontong Java Plateau
Science, 2023The submarine volcanic emplacement of the Ontong Java Plateau (OJP) is the suggested cause of Ocean Anoxic Event 1a (OAE 1a). However, no precise timing and duration exists for the formation of OJP, and its connection to OAE1a relies mainly on proxies in the sedimentary record. We provide high-precision 40 Ar/

The Alaska-size Ontong Java Plateau (OJP) in the southwest Pacific is the largest of the world's large igneous provinces and formed entirely in an oceanic environment. Limited sampling of the upper levels of basaltic basement reveals strongly bimodal ages of122 Ma and 90 Ma.

Seismic studies on the Ontong Java Plateau, 1970
Tectonophysics, 1976Abstract Marine seismic studies were conducted over the Ontong Java Plateau in the south-western Pacific Ocean during 1970 using two ships. Seismic refraction surveys revealed that crustal thickness of the plateau ranges from 35 to 42 km. A high-velocity basal crustal layer was detected in the northern part of the plateau but not in the southern part.

Modelled palaeolatitudes for the Louisville hot spot and the Ontong Java Plateau
Geological Society, London, Special Publications, 2004Abstract Formation of the Ontong Java Plateau (OJP), a large igneous province in the western Pacific, has been attributed to a rising plume head in the initial stage of the Louisville hot spot, approximately 120–125 Ma ago. However, the Neal et al.

Neues vom Ontong-Java-Plateau (Westpazifik)
Naturwissenschaften, 1992For the investigation of climatic history for the last 65 million years, several holes were drilled in 1990 on the Ontong Java Plateau by the drilling vessel Joides Resolution, under the auspices of the international Ocean Drilling Program. The Ontong Java Plateau is the largest basalt plateau on earth, and was formed in the Middle Cretaceous. From the
