[Oocyte donation -- embryo donation].

From 1993 to 1995, 82 donors have permitted the retrieval of 810 oocytes allowing to obtain 411 embryos. 95 receiving couples have been included : 30 obtained a pregnancy, 7 abandoned and 38 are waiting for a transfer. The rate of pregnancies by transfer is superior to the one observed with the transfer of frozen embryos (40.5% versus 27%).

Indications for oocyte donation

Donated oocytes were transferred on 92 occasions to 87 women without gonadal function and 5 with functional ovaries. Twenty-three pregnancies were established (25% pregnancy rate), 9 after transfer of fresh embryos in 30 synchronous donor and recipient cycles and 14 after transfers of frozen-thawed embryos in 62 asynchronous donor and recipient cycles.

Oocyte donation offers the prospect of achieving a successful pregnancy to a group of patients traditionally considered to be irreversibly sterile. In patients with ovarian failure, it is possible to create an endometrial milieu that is receptive to embryonic implantation by giving exogenous steroid replacement.

[Pregnancy following oocyte donation].

Five women, aged 31, 26, 31, 34, and 28 years, became pregnant after oocyte donation and in-vitro fertilization. One was a carrier of Leber's optical atrophy, three had had an early menopause (in two because of chromosomal abnormalities), and one had had bilateral ovarian extirpation because of a cystadenoma and endometriosis.
