Dual‐Mode Magnetic Elastomer for On‐Demand Motion and Degradation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A dual‐mode magnetic elastomer is introduced, enabling DC field‐driven programmable actuation and AC field‐driven magnetothermal degradation. GHz‐range magnetic fields generate ultrafast heating of magnetic nanoparticles that activates cleavage of the silicone elastomer matrix.

OCP Effects in Catalan Cliticization

open access: yesCatalan Journal of Linguistics, 2002
In Catalan, sequences of sibilants are never pronounced as such. In most contexts all varieties coincide in the «strategies» used to avoid these sequences, namely epenthesis or deletion.

L-Band Vegetation Optical Depth Estimation Using Transmitted GNSS Signals: Application to GNSS-Reflectometry and Positioning

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2020
At L-band (1–2 GHz), and particularly in microwave radiometry (1.413 GHz), vegetation has been traditionally modeled with the τ-ω model. This model has also been used to compensate for vegetation effects in Global Navigation Satellite Systems ...

Tuning Separator Chemistry: Improving Zn Anode Compatibility via Functionalized Chitin Nanofibers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Nanochitin derived from waste shrimp shells is used to fabricate separators for aqueous zinc batteries. By tuning the density of amine and carboxylic surface groups, water mobility at the separator interface is controlled, promoting uniform zinc deposition, suppressing dendrite growth, and enabling exceptional cycling stability exceeding 2000 h ...

3D Printing Innovations in Polymeric Porous and Patterned Architecture

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Polymeric foams occupy a unique structural space between dense solids and open networks, where engineered void fraction governs mechanical compliance, thermal resistance, and mass transport. Additive manufacturing now enables precise spatial control over cellular architecture, unlocking designer foam structures across applications spanning crash ...

Study on the factors influencing lens opacity among medical radiation workers exposed to long-term low-dose ionizing radiation

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine
BackgroundLens damage induced by occupational exposure to ionizing radiation has been extensively studied by radiation workers. This study aimed to investigate the factors influencing lens opacity in radiologists exposed to low-dose ionizing radiation ...

Complexity and Innovation. Why Beneficial Effects of Innovation Highly Depend [PDF]

open access: yesЖурнал институциональных исследований, 2019
Mainstream economics and everyday consciousness tend to declare any change an “innovation”. Innovation thus appears as a black box. It seems to lack a criterion to distinguish a counterproductive change – e.g., a dynamic perceived by agents as over ...

Nanoengineered Binetworks in Multifunctional Anionic Block Polymer Mesoblends for Improved Mechanical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Mesoblends consist of a nanostructured polymer into which a second polymer is imbibed with a selective solvent. In this work, a solvent‐templatable pentablock terpolymer possessing a sulfonated midblock is modified with a hydrophilic polymer that is photocrosslinked in situ, yielding a hierarchical binetwork.

Optimal Opacity-Enforcing Supervisory Control of Discrete Event Systems on Choosing Cost

open access: yesApplied Sciences
To ensure opacity, it is optimal to retain as many as possible occurring event sequences. Contrary to this problem, the other optimal goal is to preserve the minimal occurring event sequences.
