High-Yield Alpha-Cellulose from Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunches by Optimizing Thermochemical Delignification Processes for Use as Microcrystalline Cellulose. [PDF]

open access: yesInt J Biomater, 2023
Oil palm empty fruit bunches (OPEFB) are lignocellulosic materials that are a by‐product of the palm oil industry, which have less use and utilization is still limited. OPEFB’s high cellulose content could potentially develop into various bioproducts, especially biomaterials.

Selecting Hydrogel Films Composed of Carboxymethyl Cellulose and Microcrystalline Cellulose From OPEFB With Citric Acid as a Green Crosslinker for Fruit Wrapping. [PDF]

open access: yesInt J Biomater
Cellulose‐based hydrogel films are promising alternatives to plastic for wrapping. Hydrogel films based on carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) must exhibit high mechanical strength and be capable of absorbing moisture. Crosslinking increases the absorption capacity and mechanical strength of hydrogel films.

Designing Approach of Fiber‐Reinforced Polymer Composite by Combination of Fibrillated Olive Pomace and Marble Powder

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering, Volume 308, Issue 5, May 2023., 2023
Marble powder and olive pomace, industrial byproducts that are in demand for effective utilization, are employed as hybrid fillers in polymer composite. IL‐assisted fibrillation successfully reduces the particle size of olive pomace and partially removed hemicellulose, which improve the performance as a reinforcement.

State‐of‐the‐Art Review: Fiber‐Reinforced Soil as a Proactive Approach for Liquefaction Mitigation and Risk Management

open access: yesJournal of Engineering, Volume 2023, Issue 1, 2023., 2023
Soil liquefaction is a phenomenon that occurs in which the behavior of soils changes from solid to viscous liquid due to the effect of earthquake intensity or other sudden loadings. The earthquake results in excess pore water pressure, which leads to saturated loose soil with weaker characteristics and potentially causes large ground deformation and ...
