Experimental study on the hydrodynamic characteristics of a vegetated channel [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The aim of this Doctoral thesis is to analyse experimentally, by using measures of instantaneous velocity carried out through a laser Doppler anemometer, the behaviour of streams flowing on a rigid vegetated bottom, realized by means of brass cylinders ...

Epilepsy‐Associated Variants of a Single SCN1A Codon Exhibit Divergent Functional Properties

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Pathogenic variants in SCN1A, which encodes the voltage‐gated sodium channel NaV1.1, are associated with multiple epilepsy syndromes exhibiting a range of clinical severity. SCN1A variants are reported in different syndromes, including Dravet syndrome, which is associated with loss‐of‐function, whereas neonatal/infantile‐onset ...

A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

A radar flow meter for automatic measurement of open channel flow

open access: yesGuan'gai paishui xuebao
【Objective】The radar flow meter utilizes electromagnetic waves to measure water velocity, offering an efficient, non-invasive method for water flow measurement. In this paper, we experimentally investigates its feasibility for automatically measuring the

Effectiveness of rTMS on Working Memory and Inhibitory Impairments in Patients With Post‐Stroke Executive Deficits

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Considerable efforts have been dedicated to developing effective treatments for post‐stroke executive impairment (PSEI), among which repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) has shown great potential. This study aimed to investigate the therapeutic effects of high‐frequency rTMS on working memory (WM) and response ...

High resolution modelling of flexible submerged vegetation in rivers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Vegetation is a common feature within natural river channels and exerts a profound influence on the functioning of the fluvial system. In particular, the interaction between vegetation and flow causes a reduction in conveyance, an alteration to the ...

Free surface bubbly flow in an open capillary channel

open access: yesnpj Microgravity
This study investigates bubbly flow in a rectangular open channel under microgravity. A homogeneous flow model is used to compute frictional pressure loss and then establish a correlation between the drag coefficient and mass quality, leading to a one ...

Numerical Investigation of Developing Velocity Distributions in Open Channel Flows [PDF]

open access: yesMehran University Research Journal of Engineering and Technology, 2014
The velocity profiles in open channel flows start developing after entering into the channel for quite some length. All types of laboratory experiments for open channel flows are carried out in the fully developed flow regions which exist at some length ...

Choroid Plexus Enlargement and USPIO‐Based Inflammatory Feature in Cerebral Small Vessel Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective The choroid plexus (CP) is a key component of the blood–cerebrospinal fluid barrier (BCSFB), but its mechanism of action in cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) remains unclear. This study investigated CP volume (CPV) alterations and their association with conventional imaging markers in CSVD and explored the underlying role of ...
