The Dynamics of Open Clusters [PDF]
This is a review of a subject that turns out to be rather dismal. Both in theory and in observation we know and understand open clusters poorly – either in comparison with globular clusters or on an absolute basis.

Kinematics of old open clusters [PDF]
Radial velocities have been determined for six old open clusters in the Galactic anticenter. Moderate-resolution spectra were obtained for three to six giants in each of the clusters NGC 2141, 2158, 2204, 2243, 2420, and 2506, which yield cluster mean velocities good to about 15 km/s.

The Distribution of Open Clusters in the Galaxy [PDF]
In this work we explore the new catalog of galactic open clusters that became available recently, containing 1,750 clusters that have been re-analyzed using the Gaia DR2 catalog to determine the stellar memberships. We used the young open clusters as tracers of spiral arms and determined the spiral pattern rotation speed of the Galaxy and the ...

Eclipsing Binaries in Open Clusters [PDF]
AbstractDetached eclipsing binaries are very useful objects for calibrating theoretical stellar models and checking their predictions. Detached eclipsing binaries in open clusters are particularly important because of the additional constraints on their age and chemical composition from their membership of the cluster.

Open clusters: their kinematics and metallicities [PDF]
AbstractWe review our work on Galactic open clusters in recent years, and introduce our proposed large program for the LOCS (LAMOST Open Cluster Survey). First, based on the most complete open clusters sample with metallicity, age and distance data as well as kinematic information, some preliminary statistical analysis regarding the spatial and ...

Formation of Open Clusters [PDF]
A forming star progresses through several evolutionary stages which are marked by different observational signs that can be identified by different techniques. Stellar birth from interstellar matter occurs in dense, cold clouds of gas due to a local increase in the density and interstellar clouds composed of molecules and grains are the preferential ...

THE CHEMICAL HOMOGENEITY OF OPEN CLUSTERS [PDF]
ABSTRACT Determining the level of chemical homogeneity in open clusters is of fundamental importance in the study of the evolution of star-forming clouds and that of the Galactic disk. Yet limiting the initial abundance spread in clusters has been hampered by difficulties in obtaining consistent spectroscopic abundances for different ...
