Critical Crack Opening Displacement
2003A three-point bend specimen with S = 25 cm, W = 6 cm, a = 3 cm, and B = 3 cm is used to determine the critical crack opening displacement δc of a steel plate according to the British Standard BS 5762. The load versus crack mouth displacement (P — V) record of the test is shown in Figure 1.

Crack opening and rotation factor
International Journal of Fracture, 1994Where l is the length of the specimen between two supports. If the relationship of V and S can be determined, the rotation factor r can be calculated by (1). Figure 2 is the measurement of S and V for several polymers and a steel with dimensions of 10x10x55mm and l=40mm. A very good linear relationship is exhibited for the materials except for a little

Nonlinear crack opening integral: Mode mixity for finite cracks
Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 2017Abstract In this work the incremental energy release rate is analyzed for single-lap adhesive joints by means of the crack closure/opening integral. To this aim, geometrically nonlinear numerical analyses are performed. For nonlinear elastic analyses the relationship between nodal forces and displacements during nodal load reduction generally cannot ...

Crack opening displacement in pressurized spheres with surface cracks
International Journal of Fracture, 1985The crack opening displacement at the centre of a surface crack in a pressurized sphere has been calculated using a strip yielding model. The shallow shell solution for the stress intensity factor derived by Folias has been extended to derive the COD, and the resulting equations have been solved numerically by a procedure due to Erdogan.

An approximative crack opening displacement field for embedded cracks
Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1989Abstract For the application of Cruse and Besuner's method to calculate approximative energy release rates or “averaged weighted stress intensity factors” the crack opening displacement field of the considered crack has to be known for a reference loading case. In this paper an embedded elliptical crack is investigated.
