Open-source digital technologies for low-cost monitoring of historical constructions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This paper shows new possibilities of using novel, open-source, low-cost platforms for the structural health monitoring of heritage structures. The objective of the study is to present an assessment of increasingly available open-source digital modeling ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Numerical Analysis of Dynamic Responses of Rock Containing Parallel Cracks under Combined Dynamic and Static Loading

open access: yesGeofluids, 2020
Open-pit slopes contain numerous nonpenetrating, intermittent joints which maintain stability under blasting operations. The tip dynamic response coefficient (DRC) of parallel cracks in a typical rock mass under combined dynamic and static loading ...

Fatigue crack growth in thin notched woven glass composites under tensile loading. Part II: modelling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Fatigue propagation of a through-the-thickness crack in thin woven glass laminates is difficult to model when using homogeneous material assumption. Crack growth depends on both the fatigue behaviour of the fibres and of the matrix, these two phenomena ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

EFFECT OF SLANT CRACK ON WEAKENING MOTOR SHAFT STIFFNESS

open access: yesJixie qiangdu, 2019
Based on fracture mechanics theory, the calculation formula of shaft with oblique crack under six loads, including axial force, moment and torque etc. along the main coordinate axis, was deduced at arbitrary inclination angles.

Antiplane point load solution for a linear slot with rounded ends

open access: yesJournal of the Mechanical Behavior of Materials, 2020
An exact linear elastic solution is derived for a pair of opposing point loads, which act in the middle of a straight slot having rounded ends. This problem is analogous to the mode III crack problem where two concentrated forces act in opposite ...

ZIP3D: An elastic and elastic-plastic finite-element analysis program for cracked bodies [PDF]

open access: yes
ZIP3D is an elastic and an elastic-plastic finite element program to analyze cracks in three dimensional solids. The program may also be used to analyze uncracked bodies or multi-body problems involving contacting surfaces.

Analytical approach to the determination of dynamic characteristics of a cracked beam [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A wide spectrum of investigations devoted to the determination of natural frequencies and mode shapes of beams with an open crack are presented in the literature. However, as is well known, an open crack is a fairly crude model of a fatigue crack.

Lamb wave near field enhancements for surface breaking defects in plates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Near field surface wave ultrasonic enhancements have previously been used to detect surface breaking defects in thick samples using Rayleigh waves. Here, we present analogous surface wave enhancements for Lamb waves propagating in plates.
