279 COMPARISON OF OPEN-POLLINATED AND HYBRID CALABAZA [PDF]
Bush and short-vined calabazas [Cucurbita moschata (Duchesne) Poir.] derived from crosses of `Bush Butternut' with `La Primera' and `La Segunda' followed by several generations of selection and self pollination, are quite uniform in plant and fruit characteristics.

Self-fertility studies of some sweet cherry (Prunus avium L.) cultivars and selections
Fruit set of two sweet cherry cultivars (Alex' and 'Stella' ) and four Hungarian selections have been studied over two years following open pollination, unassisted self-pollination (autogamy) and artificial self-pollination (geitonogamy).

In countries new to producing ‘Manzanillo’ olive trees (Olea europaea), free cross-pollination is often insufficient to obtain high levels of fruit set. An appropriate pollination design is therefore essential to ensure a timely, abundant, and compatible

Blooming phenology and fertility of sour cherry cultivars selected in Hungary
Experiments were conducted during the period between 1972 and 2002 at three sites in Hungary. At Érd 97, Helvetia 10, and Újfehértó, 3 cultivars were studied in variety collections.

Open-Pollinated vs. Hybrid Maize Cultivars [PDF]
The history of maize breeding methods in the USA is reviewed to examine the question of types of maize cultivars in sustainable agriculture. The yield potential of OP cultivars was much higher than national average yields prior to 1930, but hybrid cultivars today often out-yield OP cultivars by 50–100% or more.

Heterotic Patterns among Open-pollinated Sweet Corn Cultivars [PDF]
Heterotic patterns in sweet corn are weakly defined. Most sweet corn inbreds are descended from three open-pollinated cultivars: `Golden Bantam', Stowell's Evergreen', and `Country Gentleman'. Heterotic and phylogenetic relationships among these three cultivars and others are not clearly known.

Unfertilized ovary pushes wheat flower open for cross-pollination [PDF]
Bread wheat is strongly autogamous; however, an opportunity for outcrossing occurs when self-pollination fails and florets open. The first phase of floret opening at anthesis is short and induced by lodicule turgidity. Some wheat florets re-open post-anthesis for several days, known as the 'second opening', for which the underlying mechanisms are ...
