Postoperative outcomes of open versus laparoscopic pyloromyotomy for hypertrophic pyloric stenosis

Journal of Surgical Research, 2018
Hypertrophic pyloric stenosis (HPS) is one of the most common indications for non-elective surgery in the neonatal population. Multiple small prospective trials have shown that postoperative outcomes for laparoscopic versus open pyloromyotomy are equivalent or slightly better with the minimally invasive approach.

Comparison of the incidence of complications in open and laparoscopic pyloromyotomy: a concurrent single institution series

Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 2004
The purpose of this study was to compare the incidence and type of technical complications seen in a concurrent series of pyloromyotomies done open and laparoscopically. The medical records of all patients who underwent pyloromyotomy for congenital hypertrophic pyloric stenosis over a 66-month period were reviewed (n = 457).

Recovery after open versus laparoscopic pyloromyotomy for pyloric stenosis: a double-blind multicentre randomised controlled trial

open access: yesLancet, The, 2009
BackgroundA laparoscopic approach to pyloromyotomy for infantile pyloric stenosis has gained popularity but its effectiveness remains unproven. We aimed to compare outcomes after open or laparoscopic pyloromyotomy for the treatment of pyloric stenosis ...

A comparison of laparoscopic and open pyloromyotomy at a teaching hospital

Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 2002
An increasing number of pediatric surgeons are using the laparoscopic approach to treat pyloric stenosis. The advantage of laparoscopic pyloromyotomy is uncertain and has not been evaluated in the setting of a pediatric surgery fellowship program. The authors retrospectively reviewed the medical records of all patients who underwent pyloromyotomy for ...

Laparoscopic versus open pyloromyotomies: Outcomes and disparities in pyloric stenosis

Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 2022
Pyloromyotomy for hypertrophic pyloric stenosis (HPS) is one of the most common non-elective operations performed in the neonatal period. This project aims to explore outcomes of pyloromyotomy and compare differences between laparoscopic versus open pyloromyotomies in newborns diagnosed with HPS.The Nationwide Readmissions Database (NRD) from 2010 to ...

Is laparoscopic pyloromyotomy superior to open surgery?

Surgical Endoscopy, 1998
We set out to determine whether laparoscopic pyloromyotomy (LPM) is superior to open pyloromyotomy (OPM) in babies with hypertrophic pyloric stenosis (HPS).We performed a retrospective study of 36 LPM and 36 OPM. Both groups were comparable in terms of sex, age and weight on admission, and blood pH on admission and prior to surgery.

Pyloromyotomy (Open and Laparoscopic Approach)

2019
This chapter describes surgical pyloromyotomy as performed by both open and laparoscopic techniques for hypertrophic pyloric stenosis. The text includes an introduction that outlines the indications, risks, alternatives, essential steps needed, equipment, and variations in technique for the procedure in question.

Pyloromyotomy: Comparison Between Laparoscopic and Open Surgical Techniques

Journal of Laparoendoscopic Surgery, 1995
Several reports have appeared in the literature recently describing various techniques of performing pyloromyotomy laparoscopically. Although there is no doubt that this is now technically feasible, there are unanswered questions with regard to its safety, efficacy, and potential benefits or otherwise to the patient.

Differential learning processes for laparoscopic and open supraumbilical pyloromyotomy

Pediatric Surgery International, 2016
To compare the learning curves for mastering OP and LP surgical techniques, in terms of effects on completion times and postoperative outcomes/complications.A retrospective analysis was performed for 198 patients with hypertrophic pyloric stenosis. The learning curves were in regard to two groups of surgeons: three of whom performed 106 OPs while three
