Shortcut to Equilibration of an Open Quantum System

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2019
We present a procedure to accelerate the relaxation of an open quantum system towards its equilibrium state. The control protocol, termed Shortcut to Equilibration, is obtained by reverse-engineering the non-adiabatic master equation. This is a non-unitary control task aimed at rapidly changing the entropy of the system.

Quantum projection filtering for open quantum systems

2017 IEEE 56th Annual Conference on Decision and Control (CDC), 2017
This paper presents an approximation quantum projection filtering strategy, aiming to reduce the computational cost in calculating the standard quantum filter equation in time. By using a differential geometric approach, the trajectory of the resulting quantum projection filter is constrained to evolve in a finite-dimensional differentiable manifold ...

Quantum Chaos in Open Systems

1991
Quantum systems exhibiting chaotic dynamics in their classical limit provide a stimulating testing ground for an information theoretical interpretation of dynamical properties: In isolated quantum systems, the positive information production characteristic of classical chaotic systems is replaced by quasiperiodic behavior.

OPEN QUANTUM SYSTEMS AND COMPLETE POSITIVITY

Cybernetics and Systems, 2001
The dynamics of an open quantum system is usually assumed to be generated by time-evolution equations of Lindblad form. It follows that the time evolutors are completely positive. Far from being just a useful technicality, complete positivity is one of the many aspects of quantum entanglement and is necessary to avoid physical inconsistencies.

Open Quantum Systems

The proposed book is a bridge between the foundations of quantum mechanics and the theory of open quantum systems. The treatment of open quantum systems is a rapidly growing subject, of interest to an ever-increasing number of scientists. The main focus is on overcoming the idealization of perfect isolation of a quantum system, so as to allow for a ...

On Markovian Limit in Quantum Open Systems

Open Systems & Information Dynamics, 2002
The dynamics of spherical harmonic oscillator interacting with radiation field is investigated. It is shown that the irreversibility of time evolution is due to the appearance of resonances. Reduced dynamics is given in terms of multi-time correlation functions in the Markovian limit, which includes higher order corrections in the coupling constant.

Open Quantum Systems

2020
In this chapter, we introduce and study the notion of open quantum system, generalizing that of the quantum system we have dealt with so far. This notion lies at the foundation of quantum information theory.
