Recognition of European mammals and birds in camera trap images using deep neural networks

The authors present deep neural network models that can be used to recognise both mammal and bird species in camera trap images. This provides a novel tool to recognise bird species (including non‐vocal ones) in addition to mammal species with a single neural network, which supports researchers in analysing large amounts of camera trap data.
