The use of surgical safety checklists during time-outs in rural and urban operating rooms [PDF]

open access: yes
Operating rooms continue to be one of the most common locations for errors despite interventions aimed at reducing errors. Surgical safety checklists were introduced by the World Health Organization as a tool to improve patient safety.

CDK11 inhibition induces cytoplasmic p21WAF1 splice variant by p53 stabilisation and SF3B1 inactivation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CDK11 inhibition stabilises the tumour suppressor p53 and triggers the production of an alternative p21WAF1 splice variant p21L, through the inactivation of the spliceosomal protein SF3B1. Unlike the canonical p21WAF1 protein, p21L is localised in the cytoplasm and has reduced cell cycle‐blocking activity.

Effectiveness of arginine vasopressin for the management of refractory hemorrhagic shock in a patient with autonomic dysreflexia caused by spinal cord injury

open access: yesJA Clinical Reports, 2018
Background Arginine vasopressin has been used for the management of refractory vasodilatory shock. However, it is still unclear whether arginine vasopressin is useful for hypotension in patients with spinal cord injury. Case description A 78-year-old man

Reduced vascular leakage correlates with breast carcinoma T regulatory cell infiltration but not with metastatic propensity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A mouse model for vascular normalization and a human breast cancer cohort were studied to understand the relationship between vascular leakage and tumor immune suppression. For this, endothelial and immune cell RNAseq, staining for vascular function, and immune cell profiling were employed.

Architecture and Design of Medical Processor Units for Medical Networks

open access: yes, 2011
This paper introduces analogical and deductive methodologies for the design medical processor units (MPUs). From the study of evolution of numerous earlier processors, we derive the basis for the architecture of MPUs. These specialized processors perform

Molecular characterisation of human penile carcinoma and generation of paired epithelial primary cell lines

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Generation of two normal and tumour (cancerous) paired human cell lines using an established tissue culture technique and their characterisation is described. Cell lines were characterised at cellular, protein, chromosome and gene expression levels and for HPV status.

Next‐generation proteomics improves lung cancer risk prediction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This is one of very few studies that used prediagnostic blood samples from participants of two large population‐based cohorts. We identified, evaluated, and validated an innovative protein marker model that outperformed an established risk prediction model and criteria employed by low‐dose computed tomography in lung cancer screening trials.

Effect of flumazenil on recovery of memory following recovery of consciousness from general anesthesia with remimazolam: a randomized, open-label, single-center controlled trial

open access: yesJA Clinical Reports
Background Recovery of consciousness from general anesthesia with remimazolam, an ultrashort-acting benzodiazepine, occurs rapidly. However, patients after recovery of consciousness from general anesthesia with remimazolam often experience periods of ...
