On the definition of a theoretical concept of an operating system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We dwell on how a definition of a theoretical concept of an operating system, suitable to be incorporated in a mathematical theory of operating systems, could look like.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

EbbRT: a framework for building per-application library operating systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Efficient use of high speed hardware requires operating system components be customized to the application work- load. Our general purpose operating systems are ill-suited for this task.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Fetch unit design for scalable simultaneous multithreading (ScSMT)

open access: yesJournal of Computer Science and Technology, 2001
Continuous IC process enhancements make possible to integrate on a single chip the re-sources required for simultaneously executing multiple control flows or threads, exploiting different levels of thread-level parallelism: application-, function-, and ...

A virtual operating system [PDF]

open access: yesCommunications of the ACM, 1980
Moving to a new system is costly and error-prone. The problem can be reduced through use of a virtual operating system that disentangles computing environments from their underlying operating systems. The authors report on their successful experience in doing this and achieving inter-system uniformity at all three levels of user interface: virtual ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Process tracking for dynamic tuning applications on the grid

open access: yesJournal of Computer Science and Technology, 2007
The computational resources need by the scientific community to solve problems is beyond the current available infrastructure. Performance requirements are needed due constant research progress, new problems studies or detail increase of the current ones.
