Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Metagenomic assembled genomes profile potential pathogens and antibiotic-resistant pathogens in an urban river

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety
The microbiological safety of urban rivers that flow through cities is crucial to local public health. However, detailed insights into the key characteristics of pathogens in urban rivers remain limited due to the lack of efficient high-throughput ...

THE EFFECT OF CREDIT RISK AND OPERATIONAL RISK ON PROFITABILITY WITH CAPITAL ADEQUACY VARIABLES AS A MEDIATING VARIABLE: A STUDY ON INDONESIAN STATE-OWNED BANKS FOR THE PERIOD OF 2015-2019

open access: yesRussian Journal of Agricultural and Socio-Economic Sciences, 2021
Bank profitability illustrates the measure of the level of effectiveness of a bank's management in generating profits. High bank profitability shows a good bank's ability to earn profits and has a high contribution to the economic growth of a country ...

The necessity of operational risk management and quantification [PDF]

open access: yes
Beginning with the fact that performant strategies of the financial institutions have programmes and management procedures for the banking risks, which have as main objective to minimize the probability of risk generation and the bank’s potential ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Bayesian Methods for Measuring Operational Risk [PDF]

open access: yes
The likely imposition by regulators of minimum standards for capital to cover 'other risks' has been a driving force behind the recent interest in operational risk management.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Insights into preeclampsia: a bioinformatics approach to deciphering genetic and immune contributions

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics
BackgroundPreeclampsia (PE) is a global pregnancy concern, characterized by hypertension with an unclear etiology. This study employs Mendelian randomization (MR) and single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) to clarify its genetic and molecular roots ...
