Some generic competency issues to be considered by SME's embracing nanotechnology
Four Australian SMEs have participated in an action research project to explore practical opportunities emerging from developments in nanotechnology. They have traditionally acquired technology from equipment suppliers, but on this occasion, they are ...

This study shows that superalloys used in aircraft engine disks become much more prone to deformation at high temperatures if they have been strained during manufacturing. This effect increases with the level of prior strain but eventually reaches a limit.

Fundamentals of safety hazards: A scientific perspective
Current theory on safety hazards and the origin of safety risk is often unstructured, misleading and ambiguous. Essentially, it is ambiguous, as definitions and descriptions refrain from stating a formal common basis upon which one can rely to ...

Enhancing Bubble Removal in Geometry‐Optimized Electrodes
3D‐printed lattice electrodes outperform stochastic foams in alkaline water electrolysis despite 20%–25% lower surface area. Straight flow channels generate Venturi‐like bubble entrainment, suppressing gas accumulation that renders foam interiors electrochemically inactive.

Performance Measurement and Performance Management: The Operations Management Perspective
This chapter takes an historic perspective on performance measurement and management (PMM) within operations management (OM). After defining OM, we show that most PMM within OM today is derived from the introduction of work study/productivity measurement

This study applies machine learning regression to predict chromium layer thickness in decorative trivalent chromium electroplating, using 441 experiments from laboratory‐scale (1L) and pilot‐scale (14L) setups. Tree‐based models, particularly CatBoost, outperformed linear regression by capturing nonlinear parameter interactions (R2$R^2$ up to 0.77 ...
