Operational methods, fractional operators and special polynomials
Applied Mathematics and Computation, 2003The paper is devoted to application of fractional powers of operators to special functions and operator-differential equations. Using the operator formula \[ a^{-\nu}={\frac{1}{\Gamma (\nu)}}\int^{\infty}_{0}\exp (-at)t^{\nu -1}dt,\eqno(1) \] the author discusses a formal representation of \(a^{-\nu}f(x)\) with partial differential operators \(a\) as ...

Heaviside's operational method
Proceedings of the Physical Society, 1930The author describes a method of treatment of Heaviside's operational calculus which involves unrestricted use of complex integration as employed by Bromwich, and concludes that the theory of integration provides a complete explanation of all the aspects of Heaviside's method of solving differential equations.

OPERATOR METHODS IN ORDER STATISTICS
Australian Journal of Statistics, 1992SummaryThis paper presents operator methods, based on difference and differential operators, for establishing identities satisfied by distributions of order statistics. In addition to deducing many known identities, these operator methods may also be used to derive several new identities for distributions of order statistics.

Symmetry operators for Riemann’s method
Journal of Mathematical Physics, 2004Riemann’s method is one of the definitive ways of solving Cauchy’s problem for a second order linear hyperbolic partial differential equation in 2 variables. Chaundy’s equation, with 4 parameters, is the most general self-adjoint equation for which the Riemann function is known.

A general projection operator method in the equation of motion method for the two-time Green functions is formulated. An exact Dyson equation for an arbitrary Green function is derived. The method is used to consider the single-particle electron Green functions for the Hubbard model within the non-crossing approximation for the self-energy.

We have shown in Section 7.4 that the operations scheduling problem (7.1) – (7.9) is NP-hard. Hence, optimal algorithms are not applicable for industrial applications, where hundreds to thousands of operations have to be scheduled within minutes of CPU-time. We will therefore consider two types of heuristics: construction heuristics in Section 10.1 (cf.

Operational Methods in Mathematical Physics
The Mathematical Gazette, 1928This essay-review of Jeffreys’ very welcome and valuable Tract with the above title has been written at the editor’s request. Many readers of the Gazette must have heard of Heaviside’s operational method of solving the equations of dynamics and mathematical physics.
