Geochemistry of mafic extrusive lavas in the Bayankhongor Ophiolite, Mongolia

open access: yesMongolian Geoscientist
This study presents new geochemical data on pillow lavas from the Bayankhongor Ophiolite in western Mongolia, revealing compositions that range from sub-alkaline to alkaline basalts.

Detachment Fault‐Hosted Subduction Re‐Initiation of the (Ultra)Slow‐Spreading Western Neo‐Tethys in the Jurassic

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems
Subduction initiation in oceans is key to understanding regional and global plate tectonics and ocean basin dynamics; however, its genetic mechanism is still enigmatic.

Variable Upper Mantle Geochemical Processes Constrained From Independent Component Analysis of the Fizh Massif, Northern Oman Ophiolite

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems
We statistically analyzed the whole‐rock compositions of peridotites in the Oman ophiolite using a multivariate statistical technique called independent component analysis (ICA) to better understand the processes within the ophiolitic mantle section that

The Ophiolite of Pompeano

open access: yes, 2002
The Ophiolite of Pompeano, which is made up of dark green to blackish, massive or brecciated serpentines, with clasts of different sizes (deriving originally from tectonic peridotites) is located in the mid-valley of the River Rossenna (Modena Apennines).

Gold in Ophiolites

open access: yes, 2004
Ophiolites, as a class, have been currently under-estimated as potential gold targets, although they have been the subject of major scientific research. Their resources have also attracted investors producing Cr, Cu (massive sulphides), Co, Ni (laterites), industrial rocks and minerals (serpentinites, emeralds), etc. They are also potential PGE sources.

RADIOLARIAN BIOSTRATIGRAPHY OF THE NORTHERN ALBANIA OPHIOLITES: NEW DATA FROM THE SUB-OPHIOLITIC MÉLANGE AND EASTERN MIRDITA OPHIOLITES

Ofioliti, 2023
In this paper we present new data on the Jurassic radiolarian assemblages collected in seven sections of the sedimentary cover of the Mirdita ophiolites in Albania. These ophiolites form an outstanding NNW-SSE trending ophiolitic belt representing the remnants of the Mesozoic Neo-Tethyan oceanic lithosphere in the Mediterranean area.

Ophiolites

Geology Today, 1985
An ophiolite is an association of igneous and metamorphic rocks, including basalts, dolerites, gabbros and peridotites, which may be a fragment of crust and mantle formed by spreading at a ridge beneath an ancient ocean. This remarkable conclusion is supported by many features of the structure, field relationships, petrology and geochemistry of ...
