Regeneration in Stellate Echinoderms: Crinoidea, Asteroidea and Ophiuroidea

open access: yes, 2018
Reparative regeneration is defined as the replacement of lost adult body parts and is a phenomenon widespread yet highly variable among animals. This raises the question of which key cellular and molecular mechanisms have to be implemented in order to efficiently and correctly replace entire body parts in any animal. To address this question, different

A taxonomic review of the genus Asterostegus (Echinodermata: Ophiuroidea), with the description of a new species

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Taxonomy, 2014
A revision of the genus Asterostegus Mortensen, 1933 (Echinodermata: Ophiuroidea: Euryalidae) is based on seven specimens, including the holotype of Asterostegus maini McKnight, 2003. A new species, Asterostegus sabineae sp. nov.

The diverse and widespread Southern Ocean ophiuroid Amphiura belgicae should be considered a species complex

open access: yesFrontiers in Ecology and Evolution
Accurate knowledge of geographic ranges of species is essential for effective conservation management. Species with large distributions and good connectivity are presumed to be resilient to adverse localized/regional conditions, whereas those with small ...

Species delimitation in the presence of strong incomplete lineage sorting and hybridization: Lessons from Ophioderma (Ophiuroidea: Echinodermata).

open access: yesMolecular Phylogenetics and Evolution, 2019
Accurate species delimitation is essential to properly assess biodiversity, but also for management and conservation purposes. Yet, it is not always trivial to accurately define species boundaries in closely related species due to incomplete lineage ...

And then there were many: insights from the tangled taxonomy of the Antarctic brittle star Ophioplinthus gelida (Echinodermata: Ophiuroidea)

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
To effectively manage biological assemblages, a sound knowledge of the biodiversity is essential. The Southern Ocean shelf benthic assemblages are typically comprised of species, the names of which are shared across the huge expanse of the region ...

Ophionereis reticulata (Echinodermata, Ophiuroidea) Regeneração dos braços em duas populações de Ophionereis reticulata (Echinodermata, Ophiuroidea)

open access: yesIheringia: Série Zoologia, 2010
This study compared the arm regeneration frequencies in two different populations of Ophionereis reticulata (Say, 1825) in São Sebastião, Southeast Brazil and observed arm regeneration between age classes (juvenile and adults) and sexes (male and female). From the 1,170 individuals sampled, 1,089 (92.2%) showed signs of arm regeneration.
