[Types of locomotion in Ophiuroidea].
Neirofiziologiia = Neurophysiology, 1976Locomotor movements of two species of ophiura from the Sea of Japan: Ophiura sarsi vadicola Djakonov and Amphipholis kochii Lütken, were filmed. Ophiura sarsi moves by means of two symmetric pairs of arms which perform rhythmical rowing movements, the fifth arm is passive and directed backwards.

Arm autotomy in brittlestars (Echinodermata: Ophiuroidea)
Journal of Zoology, 1978Although ophiuroid arm shedding has long been accepted as an example of autotomy, there has been little investigation of the phenomenon to substantiate this. This paper describes the outwardly visible aspects of autotomy and the function of the internal components of the arm during detachment.
