Exploring Mesophotic Coral Reef Boundaries Using Environmental DNA Metabarcoding

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 8, Issue 4, July‐August 2026.
Environmental DNA (eDNA) metabarcoding reveals boundaries along depth gradients in shallow and mesophotic coral reefs. Analysis of metazoan amplicon sequence variants (ASVs) uncovers changes in community structure from shallow to deep reefs, highlighting a localized eDNA footprint and its potential for monitoring mesophotic and deep‐sea habitats ...

Phylogenetic relationships and lineage-specific mitochondrial gene rearrangement in Ophiuroidea: insights from mitochondrial genomes

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
Ophiuroids, the most diverse group of echinoderms, inhabit a vast array of ecological niches and play vital roles in benthic ecosystems as suspension feeders, scavengers and opportunists.

Echinoderm Fauna of Chuuk, The Federated States of Micronesia

open access: yesAnimal Systematics, Evolution and Diversity, 2014
Micronesia is an island nation located north of Papua New Guinea in the Pacific Ocean. A survey was conducted on Chuuk, which is one of the four main islands of Micronesia, from 11-25 Nov 2012.

Benthic megafauna and the functioning of macroalgal forests and urchin barrens

open access: yesOikos, Volume 2026, Issue 7, July 2026.
Two temperate rocky reef food‐web models, representing the trophic diversity of the Mediterranean rocky reef communities, were built for the two stable states: macroalgal forests and barren grounds, which are characterized by opposite amounts of erect macroalgal biomass.

Posidonia oceanica Leaves as a Natural Filler for Poly(Butylene Succinate‐Co‐Adipate) Composites: Characterization and Biodegradation Assessment in Seawater

open access: yesJournal of Vinyl and Additive Technology, Volume 32, Issue 4, Page 988-1005, July 2026.
This study shows that incorporating 5–10 wt.% Posidonia oceanica , with or without micro‐talc, in PBSA preserves thermal stability, modifying crystallization behavior, and maintains good filler dispersion and interfacial adhesion. Mechanical properties are moderately stiffened. ABSTRACT This study investigates the use of Posidonia oceanica (PO) leaves,

Profundum solomoni (Amphipoda: Uristidae) Exhibits a Disjunct Geographic Distribution at Hadal Depths Across the San Cristobal Trench, Santa Cruz Trench and Nova Canton Trough

open access: yesZoologica Scripta, Volume 55, Issue 4, Page 639-651, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Hadal environments (> 6000 m ocean depths) are often viewed as isolated locations with high species endemism due to limited dispersal. However, molecular studies continue to reveal greater complexity that questions historical perceptions. Recent population genetic studies focused on scavenging amphipods have identified broadly distributed ...

Characterization of the complete mitochondrial genome of Amphioplus laevis (Ophiuroidea, Amphiuridae) with phylogenetic analysis

open access: yesMitochondrial DNA. Part B. Resources, 2019
The complete mitochondrial genome of Amphioplus laevis was 16,084 bp in length (Genbank accession: MN276320). It contained 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNA and 22 transfer RNA. The GC contents of A. laevis was 37.59%.

Sampling effort to characterize estuarine macroinfaunal communities in patchy habitats

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography: Methods, Volume 24, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract Estuarine benthic macroinfauna have aggregated, patchy distributions, making accurate community measurements dependent upon sampling scales. The purpose of this study is to determine the appropriate core sizes and sampling effort needed to characterize benthic infaunal communities in Corpus Christi Bay, Texas, USA.
