Metallic Ca Aggregates Formed Along Ion Tracks and Optical Anisotropy in CaF2 Crystals Irradiated with Swift Heavy Ions

open access: yesQuantum Beam Science
It is known that swift heavy ion (SHI) irradiation induces the shape elongation of metal nanoparticles (NPs) embedded in transparent insulators, which results in anisotropic optical absorption.

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Wavelength dependence of linear birefringence and linear dichroism of Bi2− x Pb x Sr2CaCu2O8+ δ single crystals

open access: yesScientific Reports
Copper oxide high-temperature superconductors, such as Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+ δ (Bi2212), have garnered extensive research interest due to their high critical temperatures (T c) surpassing the Bardeen–Cooper–Schrieffer (BCS) limit. The two-dimensional CuO₂ plane

Diffusion Spectrum Imaging Maps Early Axonal Loss and a Unique Progressive Signal in Neuronal Intranuclear Inclusion Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To delineate specific in vivo white matter pathology in neuronal intranuclear inclusion disease (NIID) using diffusion spectrum imaging (DSI) and define its clinical relevance. Methods DSI was performed on 42 NIID patients and 38 matched controls.

Optical anisotropy in electroactively elongated single-walled carbon nanotubes agglomerates

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2019
A thin layer of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) exhibiting optical anisotropy is prepared by electroactively elongating SWCNT agglomerates. SWCNTs are doped into a reactive mesogen (RM) solution, and the composite solution is spin-coated on an ...

Optical anisotropy of black phosphorus by total internal reflection

open access: yesNano Materials Science, 2019
Although abundant research on the anisotropy of van der Waals (vdW) materials has been published, we undertake an in-depth study of their optical properties as they have an important guiding role for light control in two-dimensional (2D) nanospace. As an

Value of MRI Outcomes for Preventive and Early‐Stage Trials in Spinocerebellar Ataxias 1 and 3

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To examine the value of MRI outcomes as endpoints for preventive and early‐stage trials of two polyglutamine spinocerebellar ataxias (SCAs). Methods A cohort of 100 participants (23 SCA1, 63 SCA3, median Scale for the Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA) score = 5, 42% preataxic, and 14 gene‐negative controls) was scanned at 3T up ...

Structure–Property Relationships for Weak Ferromagnetic Perovskites

open access: yesMagnetochemistry, 2021
Despite several decades of active experimental and theoretical studies of rare-earth orthoferrites, the mechanism of the formation of their specific magnetic, magnetoelastic, optical, and magneto-optical properties remains a subject of discussion.

Paramagnetic Rim Lesions Are Associated With Trans‐Synaptic Degeneration of the Visual Pathway in Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives Retrograde trans‐synaptic degeneration (rTSD) from posterior visual pathway lesions in multiple sclerosis (MS) is characterized by hemi‐macular ganglion cell‐inner plexiform layer (GCIPL) thinning and contralateral visual field loss.
