An introduction to optical burst switching

IEEE Communications Magazine, 2003
Optical burst switching is a promising solution for all-optical WDM networks. It combines the benefits of optical packet switching and wavelength routing while taking into account the limitations of the current all-optical technology. In OBS, the user data is collected at the edge of the network, sorted based on a destination address, and grouped into ...

Techniques for optical packet switching and optical burst switching

IEEE Communications Magazine, 2001
Wavelength-division multiplexing appears to be the solution of choice for providing a faster networking infrastructure that can meet the explosive growth of the Internet. Several different technologies have been developed so far for the transfer of data over WDM.

Burst segmentation benefit in optical switching

IEEE Communications Letters, 2003
The asymptotic ratio between the blocking probabilities of BS and JET protocols was derived as the number of wavelengths supported by the optical switch. BS offered a factor of ((1-c)2/c)k improvement in blocking probability value. This value can be more than two orders of magnitude for foreseeable dense WDM systems.

Synchronous optical burst switching

First International Conference on Broadband Networks, 2004
We introduce a new protocol based on the optical-burst-switched (OBS) transport to support synchronous services such as SONET/SDH. We term this protocol synchronous optical burst switching (SOBS) and describe the problems and challenges of supporting both synchronous and asynchronous traffic with various bandwidth granularities. We discuss the problems

Design of burst for optical burst switching

International Conference on Communication Technology Proceedings, 2003. ICCT 2003., 2004
A probable structure of burst for optical composite burst switching (OCBS) and a new method supporting QoS to set offset time between control packet and macropacket are put forward. The algorithm to realize OCBS is also proposed. According to the result of the performance analysis, OCBS has a lower packet loss probability and higher channel efficiency ...
