Optical character recognition (OCR) is a process by which printed text is detected and transformed into a computer text file. OCR consists of two basic processes: scanning and recognition. Scanning, performed with a device called a scanner, digitizes the printed page, creating a coded graphics version of the text that may be stored on disk.

Towards the optical character recognition of DSLs
Proceedings of the 13th ACM SIGPLAN International Conference on Software Language Engineering, 2020OCR engines aim to identify and extract text strings fromdocuments or images. While current efforts focus mostly inmainstream languages, there is little support for program-ming or domain-specific languages (DSLs). In this paper, wepresent our vision about the current state of OCR recognitionfor DSLs and its challenges.

A recognition-based Arabic optical character recognition system
SMC'98 Conference Proceedings. 1998 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics (Cat. No.98CH36218), 2002Optical character recognition systems improve human-machine interaction and are widely used in many government and commercial departments. After forty years of intensive research, OCR systems for most scripts are well developed. However, not for Arabic script. Since Arabic is a popular script, Arabic OCR systems should have great commercial value. Thus

Optical character recognition for typeset mathematics
Proceedings of the international symposium on Symbolic and algebraic computation - ISSAC '94, 1994There is a wealth of mathematical knowledge that could be potentially very useful in many computational applications, but is not available in electronic form. This knowledge comes in the form of mechanically typeset books and journals going back more than a hundred years.
