Demonstration of Monolithic Integration of InAs Quantum Dot Microdisk Light Emitters and Photodetectors Directly Grown on On-Axis Silicon (001)

open access: yesMicromachines
Silicon-based microcavity quantum dot lasers are attractive candidates for on-chip light sources in photonic integrated circuits due to their small size, low power consumption, and compatibility with silicon photonic platforms.

Pixelated Laser with Tailored Emission Spectrum Photopatterned by Digital Holographic Microscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Azobenzene‐based surface‐relief gratings inscribed via DHM‐integrated holographic lithography enable programmable pixelated DFB laser architectures. This approach allows independent control of grating parameters across a 2D array, enabling spatially tailored emission spectra.

Atmospheric propagation effects relevant to optical communications [PDF]

open access: yes
A number of atmospheric phenomena affect the propagation of light. The effects of clear air turbulence are reviewed as well as atmospheric turbidity on optical communications.

Exciton Radiative Lifetimes in Hexagonal Diamond Ge and SixGe1–x Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Strong room‐temperature photoluminescence reported in hexagonal Ge conflicts with theory predicting a nearly dark band edge. First‐principles calculations of excitonic radiative lifetimes fill a key gap in this debate, showing that pristine hexagonal Ge remains intrinsically weakly emissive, while Si alloying only modestly shortens the lifetime and ...

Intramolecular FRET Cascades Enable Small Efficiency Roll‐Off in Solution‐Processed OLEDs

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
This work highlights how an intramolecular FRET design strategy in solution‐processable MR‐TADF emitters enables narrowband emission, high PLQY, and efficient exciton harvesting. The resulting hyperfluorescent solution‐processed OLEDs reach up to 20.7% EQEmax with minimal efficiency roll‐off even at 10 000 cd m−2, demonstrating strong potential for ...

Free-moving-state microscopic imaging of cerebral oxygenation and hemodynamics with a photoacoustic fiberscope

open access: yesLight: Science & Applications
We report the development of a head-mounted photoacoustic fiberscope for cerebral imaging in a freely behaving mouse. The 4.5-gram imaging probe has a 9-µm lateral resolution and 0.2-Hz frame rate over a 1.2-mm wide area.
