Investigation of the Effect of Physical and Optical Factors on the Optical Performance of a Parabolic Trough Collector

open access: yesEnergies, 2017
The overall thermal performance of a Parabolic Trough Collector (PTC) depends on its optical performance, particularly the uniformity of the irradiance distribution and the resultant optical efficiency of the collector.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Computational Imaging in Dual-Band Infrared Hybrid Optical System with Wide Temperature Range

open access: yesSensors, 2022
The special dispersion and temperature characteristics of diffractive optical element (DOE) make them widely used in optical systems that require both athermalization and achromatic aberrations designs.

Efficient parity-encoded optical quantum computing [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review A, 2007
We present a linear optics quantum computation scheme with a greatly reduced cost in resources compared to KLM. The scheme makes use of elements from cluster state computation and achieves comparable resource usage to those schemes while retaining the circuit based approach of KLM.

High-efficiency quantum state transfer and quantum memory using a mechanical oscillator

open access: yes, 2015
We analyze an optomechanical system that can be used to efficiently transfer a quantum state between an optical cavity and a distant mechanical oscillator coupled to a second optical cavity.

Gaussian state interferometry with passive and active elements [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We address precision of optical interferometers fed by Gaussian states and involving passive and/or active elements, such as beam splitters, photodetectors and optical parametric amplifiers. We first address the ultimate bounds to precision by discussing

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Simulation and Experimental Study on the Optical Performance of a Fixed-Focus Fresnel Lens Solar Concentrator Using Polar-Axis Tracking

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
Most sun-tracking systems of solar concentrators are expensive, sensitive to operational costs, and complicated in optical design in which the receiver must be free to rotate about the axis.

Fiber distributed feedback laser [PDF]

open access: yes, 1976
Utilizing round optical fibers as communication channels in optical communication networks presents the problem of obtaining a high efficiency coupling between the optical fiber and the laser. A laser is made an integral part of the optical fiber channel
